I spent a lot of time polishing then I attached the back piece permanently to the chest. I added designs that were from my own creative period of style as I had nothing carved or any curved molding. With the stain and finish being an exact match it looks like it was always been on it. I have an oak chest of drawers that has a fancier back piece and that is what inspired the making of this one.

We woke up to 26° F. this morning. I will have to go back to my camera and reboot and reload more.

I am having a slow day today, still adjusting with the time change and my diabetic medication. I think I am on the schedule now and yet I am still reacting to the change. We are having a great sunny day and the temps are a little cool. We didn't get any more rain even though some of the state did. I guess a half of an inch is the blessing we appreciate. Thanks for checking in today.

L. I am happy with one piece that I glued but the top piece is not right. I will have to do a redesign on it to fix it. I guess I could cut the whole top off and recap it. It is frustrating when wood has so many uneven and twisted qualities that makes things show up out of line and uneven. When things look accurate but then you glue it and the curve in the wood shows up. It is so frustrating. I will fix it. Thanks for stopping by this Thursday.

L. It is the wall built to retain the temple mount. There are 37 blocks stacked on top of each other and 17 of the stack are underground, not visible. We sometimes get date syrup, coffee, spices and things like that which are being sold by small business in the country. The squares are made of limestone taken from the same area as the stones of the Wall were cut, the same quarry. The interesting thing about these are their physical characteristics. The stone is chalky even though it is very hard. The stone has a cooler feel than room temperature. It was strange to pick them up and feel that cold, it may be a dampness that makes them colder. They still are very strong, dense, hard when you press against them. The same kind of limestone stone is what we use here in our state for our gravel roads. It is spread in layers to keep a dirt road safe from being saturated from rainfall. Ours may be a softer form of limestone as they dig it up in river bed areas and grind it to smaller pieces.

My wife created this painting of the Wall. There was no cell phones, no line of communication, other than flagging or holding out a sign that an engineer could see from the opposite end of the train. In early times it was also a mail car where the guy sorted mail and packed the pieces in different bags to be dropped off at various towns. I had relatives that would put mail in the box and it would go out to the relative to the next town the same day. That left the man who grabbed the mail bag off of the post, scrambling as they traveled to the next town and get it in the next towns bag. The mailbags were hoisted by a pole to the hook and the man would have a hooked shape tool to grab it as the train passed by. I remember seeing them tossing the bag out on the ground to deliver mail and the postmaster would walk along the track to pick it up wherever it had landed.

This is the smaller scaled caboose from one of the two small trains. It is just a very distant memory of its original condition and it still looks good on my train display.

We are cooler again today but the sun has shone all day. It looks like spring. It is one that was sold in the 1930's to children. It originally held small candy bits in its hollow body. We were in my wife's farm home attic, which also had been her grandparents house and I discovered it. I was walking around in a very trashed up attic and stepped on this and looked down seeing I was standing on it. I had a collection of them already from my mom so I knew exactly what I had. I didn't break anything by standing on it but it did have a broken part on the back side of the square cabin.

I did take pictures of all of my coal cars and also the cabooses of all other the trains. I won't share them for a while as this is too much. Thanks for stopping by today.

L. We look like spring but the afternoon clouds have moved in making it look gray. We didn't get a rain that changed anything but maybe the rains north of us will empty into our rivers.

Thanks for stopping by today.

L. My wife had a painting that was done by her late close friend and I wanted to get it framed. We ran a frame shop for 26 years in our home and it was nice to move away from the business. I did pull off the framing with my wife helping me with the assembling at the last. Maybe I will share a shot of it on the wall another day. He would find a box of many things from an estate and bid on it. He would bid on it for just one item and then give the rest to us. In one of those boxes were five or six of these plates. It's pattern is called Indian Tree. MYOTT, Fine Staffordshire Ware, Indian Tree ia written on the back. Some of these were made with a pattern on the outside rim and the plate was a different shape. I read that they were made in large quantities in the late 1800"s. through the 1940s. We were surprised to see the pattern of dishes in a house museum that we visited in Denver years ago. It was a similar pattern and said to be an everyday dish. We use ours often whenever we have Chinese food or sometime just because they are pretty. I am amused as to how the factory works blotted the glaze colors onto the flowers with out much artistic flare.

My first experience of buying antique dishes started back in 1973. I had an old walnut antique table and was collecting old things of all kinds. I was at an auction at a house in Coin, Iowa. I spotted this box full of the family china. I got it for six dollar and the pattern is call Mildred. A few years later I was at an antique store in Osceola, Iowa and found another batch of them that were in better shape. Ironically, I ran across a site that is based on people who collect this dinnerware. The Love of Mildred is active with people sharing all of their finds at flea markets and such places. We don't use ours so much as we have acquired newer sets as the years go by. We have the Blue Willow dishes and a couple different patterns of Pfaitzgraff dishes. My wife also has her late mother's plates and sauces that we use often. We rotate our patterns in relation to how we are feeling for the meal.

We are having a warm 60's day today. I had it on my garden shed at the old place and it was there so long that the base started to rot. We built a new addition to the house during our second year of marriage. The big room became an art gallery for two artists and studio space also. Once the gallery opened we had people who wanted us to frame things for them. We found a company to order frames and our framing business was open. Every Saturday we ran a business out of our house and week days we were having people dropping by with appointment. It was nice to move away from that after so many years of that.

When we moved to our newer home we thought we wouldn't have a display area ever again. Once we moved in we discovered in our lower area two lighted walls in a space that had been intended for a television room. Instead of putting couches up against those walls I instead started hanging art work. It was a big space but I still didn't get everything hung. Some things are still in a closet.

My early modern works are not hanging with the group. Stephens. It is a beautiful place inside. You can see the stairways that go up to the entrance of the building. I photographed it at all angles while it was being built as a college student and then created the painting from my black and white photo. The area was developed into a new football stadium to the south and a basketball gym about the same size as this building. Also a dramatic arts building is there. Now in development is a shopping center being built to interest sports people with it being the first in the nation to be created.

I picked up groceries this morning and the weather was better than yesterday. I know from experience that snow doesn't bother early buds an ice storm does damage. It was good to get outside and see what the winds and snow storms did to things during the winter. I did find this hydrangea head that had blown up against the fence. I don't think it came from my plant as it was large like the neighbor's up the street. I told the new neighbor that you have to get use to thing blowing down the street. I picked up a plastic bag that once held crisp chocolate cookies. I am betting that came from the neighbors up the street that have five kids.

I talked with my brother today who lives in California. He turned 81 today. He was out checking for rattlesnakes in his garden when I first tried to call him. His dog had a snake bite in the summer and they had to give him a shot to bring him back. My brother has cleared the flower bed of brush and still checks it everyday before he lets his dogs out into the back yard. His house sits on a hill that is undeveloped that attached to a major freeway at the bottom of the hill. The land is sandy dry with lots of natural shrub on its slope. It makes for good rattlesnake dens.

Thanks for stopping by today.

L.
