Checking In

As the sun sets in the west the light glows and reflects off of the trees in the east. The colors are really more intense that in the day time.

With a light sprinkle going on there is a partial wide rainbow showing. I had to shoot this through the screen wire so it has lots of texture.

While cleaning up things in my water soaked closet I found in one of the drawers my grandma's quilters clamps. The quilting frames were held together with these. I helped my grandma set up her quilters frames and I also helped my mom doing the same many times. In the winter we would often have a quilt frame set up in the one end of our living room. We could watch her progress as she would roll it up as she would complete parts.  I would explain it more but it would take too long if you don't understand what I am writing about.

These two views are of my one quilt done by my grandma. I like to study the different designs that were use use back then. My grandma would make dresses on her tredle machine. The thing she did not do was to quilt. It was called knotting a quilt, as thread was sewn from front to back and then they were knotted from the front. Notice all the string ties in the photo.

The one way to identify her quilts is that she bought flannel for her backings and they usually were not very colorful. Flannel did make them warm.

It is very cold again and the wind chill keeps us frosty.  We were out twice today and it will take us awhile to get use to the winter to come. Thanks for stopping by today.
