Monday Moments.....

Same o same o view this morning. It warmed up today but there was a good breeze making it pleasant.

I have had the Roman birdhouse for years. The hole is too big so birds try to make a nest in it and then abandon it. It looks like it needs a good cleaning.

It was a busy day. I squeezed in a bunch of tasks including getting a haircut. I signed up for the cut on the net and went over immediately to meet the appointment. It was an overdue haircut. It was garbage day. I worked outside cutting up sticks and stuffing them in this bag. I picked more tomatoes and sat right here to take the photo. Finished off the day getting meds at the pharmacy and picking up a few groceries. I also picked up a meal for us at the China Moon. There was so  much food in the order that we can get two meals out of it. They have great food.I ordered that meal on the net also. Fast and easy anymore if you don't like talking on the phone.

Thanks for stopping by today.

A Posting....

The last of these are now failing, turning brown. It was too dry for them to be a good looking plant this season. Maybe next year they will perk up a bit.

The chipmunks get hungry enough to crawl up on the vine and help themselves.  I have plenty so I guess it is okay.  I just sliced off its chewed part and ate it right away.

There are different sculptures showing people standing in rows and each of the people are leaning in a different slant. I think of those works every time I view these aging sunflowers. They are all through blooming now and I assume seeds are being formed. I will know when the birds start to feed off of them.

It is a lot of work now but in the spring they are wonderful to see. I was at a construction supply center and this is all that I purchased. I did look at new bathroom tile samples and took pictures for a future job.

Sunny Day....

I mowed the back yard today. It was needed and the temps were just right. I also pulled weeds, cut back volunteer trees and  pulled a vine that I hate that my former owner left for me. The vine is so much out of control.  I also pulled out more creeping phlox.  It has thorny parts to it to punish me while I pull it. I had a leaky gas container that left me a mess to clean up in the garage.  I ended up cleaning the whole floor, washing it down, and spot cleaning the gas spill. I got to  back the truck out of the garage to get to the floor.  It doesn't get driven much anymore and just occupies space. I should sell it. That will happen some other time.  Too complicated, thanks for stopping by today.

Friday.....

The sun was rising behind this cloud bank. It was exactly at the time when my phone said the sun would rise.

The surprising thing was I could see the sun shining off of the moon up above. I didn't expect to see that.

I did go out in the sun shine that happened later on and mowed the front yard. It was cool enough that I had to wear a parka during the time. It was a good time to work outside so I cleaned up some stray tomato branches leaving the ones with tomatoes still on the plants. I also started to trim down stray starts of trees in the flower garden. The grass in the shade is growing good but the direct sun parts of the yard look like the normal fall dry grass.

I really do not know of this happening before with my iris.  It is dry and the plants, not all of them, but a lot of them are flattening out like this.  Usually they just dry back.

My new adventure of the day was to install four of these solar light along the front of my terraced garden. The ground was very dry do it was a challenge.  I also pulled out lots of creeping phlox that has invaded the whole area. I may pull more of it out as it just crowded out my tulips and grape hyacinths. I didn't plant it there so I guess I can tear it out without the former owners' complaints.

The moss rose was a successful plant in this old birdbath. I will do that again next spring. I know that they will last until a hard frost and then I will have to start again.  Seasonal changes does seem to cool us off already but the light change has not been that noticeable.

Thanks for stopping by today.

Middle of the Week....

I enjoy using my stairs now with the new railing. I remember that it was difficult to not have a visual and actual railing to guide me up and down without thinking I could fall off the edge.

I bought this hosta thinking it was a different variety as the white showed up a few months later I think I already have this one. It was a deep green plain leaf at first.

The off season blooming of the day lily is freakish but I am glad to have it anyway. It did dry out a lot and looked dead so my watering brought on a new season.

My vines are doing well in the flower boxes.  It doesn't help that I have been gone for a month at the hospital and things didn't get watered.  I had to move the one clematis in the middle box out and place it in the ground somewhere elsewhere.  The volunteer morning glories are blooming and I did get out to catch them this morning.

I did get my bathroom walls painted yesterday and my muscles do hurt today.  I took out the woodwork, baseboard at the bottom of one wall and I am in the process of refinishing that. My new paint is called ballet white. It looks great and now I think I need to put down new floor tile. We didn't pick out anything in the bathroom except the new walk in shower so we feel good about changing things in there. Picking out new floor tile will be a challenge but it can be done. I will let my muscles heal up a bit before I take on the floor job.

I need to mow the front yard but didn't have time to get to it. Maybe tomorrow it will happen.  The grass grows well in the shade of the trees.  Thanks for stopping by today.

Tuesday Afternoon…

Sometimes you just have to sit down on the stairs and take it all in. It’s not the most comfortable but the view is great.

My first painted lady butterfly for the season.

The day started out looking like this. It warmed up a bit but was cloudy most of the day.

Getting Started is Hard.....

I am seeing new photographic opportunities but have not taken a shot. The humming birds are feeding and there must be butterflies out there somewhere. I need to go outside right after I take a break. Maybe I will have newer photos by then. Have a great Monday.

A Cloudy Day....

The old foundation rose of the past has grown well at the new place. It can be trimmed back easily enough but the angel seems to be protected by its growth. The rose is an old one that was probably passed around from house to house sharing it for free. I am sure there were no places to buy any plants back in the nineteen hundreds.

These are roses that remind me of the old fashioned one by its color and shape. The difference is that old ones bloom only once as these just keep putting out new blooms all summer.

The deck was wet this morning from a small amount of rain.  It rained all around us but missed us mostly. The one this morning was probably just a short shower.  Our grass is turning brown from the lack of rain and somehow fall is upon us.  I missed a lot of the seasonal changes this year so I am shocked to see things shutting down. My neighbor lady is tearing out her vegetable garden leaving only one tomato plant standing and some parsley.  I will deal with my tomato plants later as I still have some small green ones on the vine. My roma tomato has nothing on it anymore.

It is a quiet Sunday. I need to do some small grocery store buying this evening, maybe pick up something for supper. It will be busy as people like to Sunday shop quickly because the weekend is over and Monday is coming. One has to try and stay out of their way as they dart around and crowd through. Thanks for stopping by today.

Weekend in the Works.....

Ir has been cloudy for most of the day. We still warmed up to 88 degres F. by afternoon.  The crowded sky did scatter after an hour or two.

I did see fluttering of something out with the zinnias. I had to stand still and just watch to see if I really did have a butterfly. My cell phone was all that I had with me and it did help me pick out an image.

I hope that this is a beginning of a migration.  I saw a monarch a couple of days ago at the sunflowers but it didn't stick around for very long.

I have been watering the petunias in the area and it caused the day lily to bud and bloom. It is unusual but welcomed anyway.

I shared yesterday that I had not had any time to deadhead my roses.  I had forgotten that the pink one doesn't really care about that. As you can see there are new buds all over the stem of this one part of the rose. I have three or four areas that have buds. I will have new blooms soon.

It is great not to be at the hospital anymore. My wife is weary from the procedures that were done yesterday. Resting and healing continues each day. The quiet is still amazing and there are not people running everywhere at our house night and day.   Thanks for stopping by today.

Friday.....

My wife had an appointment this morning at the hospital this morning with a couple of radiologists . We made the time and we are back home. The place must miss me and my eating at the cafeteria. I did get a Starbucks coffee as I was so cold I needed to warm up. The place is so busy that I had sensory overload with the cars in the parking lot to the people just moving everywhere going in every direction around me. I was glad to get out of there.

Back at home I am working on things in the yard. I am getting to the last of my tomatoes. There are such a few green ones left and it seems like fall is coming too quickly.

I don't know if I should deadhead my roses. They have been neglected so I may be just trimming them back for winter. The cluster was full of roses in many different stages of blooming.

The sedum in the backyard is laying down for some reason.  We tend to look like we are in a drought as my iris have flattened and other plants seem deficit of water.

Thanks for stopping by today.
