Tuesday....P.M

I have taken the shots of the moon for a long time. Sometimes I just take a break knowing they all look pretty similar. The draw is that when I go out to take down the flag I get drawn in to its glow.  I just have to take one more photo.

While outside I successfully got the view of my outdoor garden light.  I bought it not know that it would do this pattern but I am glad that it does.

I worked on the bathroom floor again today.  I had caulking to do in certain areas along with the edge to the shower. I need to now replace all of the woodwork that I had removed to do a good job. When that is done, I am done. I have one piece of woodwork that is behind the stool that was abused by the three previous owners. I really feel that I need to remove it and sand it down to refresh it. They were slopping painters and it looks like they used a sloppy mop that went up on the wood.

We have one appointment in the morning and it looks like it will be raining too much for me to mow leaves in the afternoon. I can just wait to mulch until the time is perfect. Hopefully it will before we get snow.

Thanks for stopping by today.

Cold but Colorful....

The day finished off with a sight like this in the sky. The sun sets behind the houses so I get the benefit only of its reflection only.

It has been a busy day with my work on the bathroom floor. All that is left to do is replace all the woodwork edging and the door frames with shortened side pieces. It is cold outside and seems like it is gong to be the norm for quite a while.

Sunday PM......

It is time to bring in the decorative bird houses. I have them lined up along the wall under the eave. I will get them inside soon.

My neighbor's maple tree has now lost most of its leaves.  They all lay on the ground around the base of the tree. I used the tree as my measure of how the seasons were changing as when it first started to turn colors at the top to the loss of all its leaves. The tree lost a major branch a few months ago during one of our wind storms.

Different kinds of maples are in my two neighbors' yard are at their stages of loss of leaves. Richie's tree is almost bare tnow with mostly limbs showing now.

The silver maple is an old tree that I can see a few blocks away. It looks like a Halloween tree at this time of the year. I had so many silver maples on my old property in Woodward and gradually I lost them from old age. They were taken down. I enjoy having the good memories of those trees when I see this tree.

Looking down from my deck you can see that my grass has revived. We have had over three inches of rain in the past couple of weeks and it started to grow again. I will start mowing up the leaves soon as soon as I am finished with my bathroom floor project. Tomorrow I will finish the stick tile in the bathroom. Most of the floor is done but I have to do the area around the stool. I was too tired to finish it on Saturday. Crawling around on the floor putting down tile can cause lots of aches and pains. The job looks so good and is covering up 20 year old ugly floor covering that was put down when the house was built. It is a joy to cover up a flooring that some other person picked out so long ago.  I will be glad for Monday to come and move on to the finishing of a project.

Thanks for stopping by today..

Saturday....No Sun Yet....

One more bud is left to open. The orchid is a year old and just bloomed again for me with no effort from me. I just gave it tablespoons of water once a week.

The rains gave my almost dead sedum some redish colors. It seems we have moved to the level of a moderate drought now after a few weeks of spotty rains.

The rose hips are few but there are some. The bush needs to be pruned back and I am  hoping there will be some good fall weather yet in order to do that.

This maple tree doesn't have the most colorful leaves as some other kinds but it is showing some rusty colors this fall. The sun shining on it with the comparison of dark green spruce makes a good color contrast that makes the maple leaves look better.

I will start laying floor tile in the bathroom today.  I don't have any plans to finish it today and I will just finish it on Monday.  I have all the woodwork trim removed and refinished. I have some final decision to make as to what pattern I want to use to put down the tile squares. I tend to like to be creative so the squares may not be all stacked squares. It is a gray dull day so far. We had some rain in the night as the deck is still wet. I can wait to mulch leaves when it drys out some. Have a good weekend.

Friday's Finds....

It is a rough looking sky but we did get clear sky by the noon time. Colder weather is here and I wore a jacket to keep warm when I was outside.

Our view to the south west is a good one but we don't have that many windows on that side. Two different bedrooms face that direction and the front door is our best view. I like to open the door in the afternoon and prop it open to get a good view.  It is our picture window so to speak.  The locust tree is looking good and eventually the burning bush will show off some color. I have to remove the flag on windy days when I know copany is coming as one can get hit in the face on certain days. We have no wind today.

I put my two pots of jade plant outside this late summer. They are back in now with the colder weather. It really helped them to grow bigger and they have a deeper green color.

I was at the lumber store today to pick up a case of my bathroom tiles. While there I picked up some birdseed to start off my fall feeding season. I saw a cardinal at my feeder this morning so I was encouraged to maybe see it again. I will be watching for the birds that migrate from the north. The juncos  stay in our area for the winter and it is a little early to be seeing them.

Thanks for checking in today.

November 7th, Thursday....

When one lives in suburbia you always get to see everyone else's stuff. The trailer and truck are there all of the time. The trailer is full of wood pieces that my neighbor uses to build things.  The locust tree is still holding on to some of its leaves. I don't have enough leaves on the ground yet to start mowing here on the front yard.

My newly transplanted hosta are looking good. They don't get shocked when you yank them out of one area and put it in another area. They have been green for quite awhile and they are changing color now with the seasonal changes. The winds have done a good job of putting leaves on them for the winter.

I like these host at the base of my posts. I keep taking shots of them as they are a great thing to view.

My red bud has dropped its leaves on the north side of the tree. I don't know what the cause is unless it was the strong northerly winds that happen the other day.

I got my new cap on my tooth, #5, today.  I went early for my eight o'clock and they would not let me inside. I have usually been late as the traffic is  bad and there is construction going on at one of the intersections. They had to get the grinder out to make the cap better fit. The temporary fell out twice so I am a little concerned how good this will stay in now for a long time. I have other caps that have stayed in so I really suppose this one will too.

I am a little beat up from the procedure so I am taking it easy today.  I have a new tile selected for the bathroom so I will be measuring out the number that I need to buy. I picked up four samples to lay down so my wife could see what they would look like. It will be nice to get a new floor in there that will match the new shower.

Thanks for checking in today.

Wednesday without Wind.....

The knock out rose is putting out it last blooms.  I need to cut back the three bushes to get them ready for winter and encourge growth in the spring.

My Uncle Leo had a special iris that he liked to grow.  He is long gone now but I was able to take a rhizome from his plants.  He and My Aunt Doris' graves are overgrown with the iris.  I was glad to see the one rhizome is sprouting new leaves. It is a different variety and I am not sure how it normally grows. Because of the drought it all died back a month ago. But when I pressed on the rhizomes they are still hardy and firm. It is red and yellow and is special that I can keep it growing.

The view in the backyard shows the neighbors' trees. I like how there is a variety of trees. The weeping willow is a beautiful tree. We never see the willow unless we are standing out in the yard as the next door neighbor's house blocks the view.

Of the three clematis plants that I bought this spring, this one was the most happy to grow in the flower box. The first one in the first flower box thrived but the drought made it die back late summer.  The middle box had a clematis that I felt needed to be rescued so I planted it out in the garden soil. I will be hoping to see they all survive the winter and they will be ready to grow with their roots established after a year.

I could seem to get the seeds out of these spent sunflowers but I left them out for the birds. It was a surprise to see all the seed hulls on the ground next to them. I leave them there for a few more weeks so they can get all of the seeds still there.

It is too wet for me to mow up leaves today. We had a wet, foggy morning causing dew to hang around for quite a while. I have a dental appointment tomorrow to finish up my project on an expensive tooth.  The temporary cap fell off again and I just didn't go back to have it put back on again. It is an early appointment so maybe I can mow tomorrow afterwards.

Thanks for stopping by today.

To Vote Day......

The rains have come and we are glad to get moisture in the ground. The phlox that hung on for so long has a tiny amount of bloom and it has kept me from cutting down..  The cold winds should shut it down eventually.

I didn't get my rain gauges out this summer as it was never raining. So my buckets and different containers tell me how much water we were getting. This bucket is the measure from the past four or five days.

The burning bush did struggle all summer. As you can see the peak of red is there but the leaves are few in number.

My new iris that I got from the neighbor are really happy with the rains.  I was also glad to see the grass seed has started. It seems to not mind the cold when it is unhindered on fresh soil.

I worked inside for most of the day. It was gray and cold outside and it seemed that I could wait for warmer weather. The last of the hostas are dying back. Some locations of the property have hosta totally collapsed.  I will need to mow leaves yet but the leaves are still falling. The wind has changed directions as the leaves that lined the north side of the driveway are now all collected on the south side of the driveway. I hope more of them blow away before I have to rake.

Thanks for stopping by today.

Monday's Mention.....

Its a pumpkin gifted to us a few weeks ago. The friend put on all the ribbons to decorate it as a wrapped gift. Yes, it is an unusual color for a pumpkin but believe me it is a pumpkin. I think it would be fun to try and grow the seeds next year.

My display seems to be getting over done. I kept adding vases to it from past flowers that my wife received when sick. It think it is a cluttered grouping now. I added the vase with the last stem of iris buds on the stem. The next thing that does go on the chest of drawers is a Christmas tree.

I spent time this morning, downstairs in our lower floor, downsizing things on display. Looking at the bookcase, it may seem over crowded, but I changed things.  I took down my display of my pottery on various boxes.  I weeded out books that we should never have kept and moved to the new house. I stored the books in a storage bin and made room for my pottery. I have helped clean things up and don't have things lining the entire room along the wall anymore.  I have too many collections and I have decided that I just can't display them all anymore. I have to hit the other end of the room tomorrow.

 Thanks for stopping by today.

Some Things on Sunday.....

It is a cold sky shot from yesterday morning. We are too cloudy this morning to have much light at all. The trees all become familiar with me as I keep taking these shots. The old silver maple haslost all of its leaves while others are almost done clearing their leaves.

My indoor bouquets that I brought in from the cold are all now dead. The spent flowers have a sculptural appearance.

I still have two stalks of iris that keep blooming out in the sunroom.  It was good that I brought them in as the freezing temps have hit a couple of times.

We have been getting rains the past few days.  It is too late for the sedum as they did take the lack of moisture destroy their appearance.

I was up too early in the morning so I changed my clocks in the living room and kitchen at that time. It was changed to 4:43 at that time.  This shot was taken on another early morning day.

Have a good day.

A Photo Dump....

No theme today other than photos that I haven't shared yet from all the pictures that I have taken. We warmed up a little today. I had to go get my temporary cap on my tooth re-glued today. It came off while I was brushing my teeth.  I will get the expensive gold one the next Thursday. I was glad they squeezed me in as it was their fault that it came out.  It was never put in correctly by the tech person as the dentist replaced it in the correct position today.  We didn't do the trick or treat thing last night.  It didn't look like there were that many kids out last night.

Thanks for stopping by today.
