Saturday’s Stuff....

In the pond next to the DNR building, they placed one lone waterlily plant in the water to help decorate the not so real environment of the waterways of Iowa.

A pair of swans and some mallard ducks are around and in the pool.

Inside is a historic aquarium display filled with fish and turtles showing the variety of fish that live in Iowa ponds and lakes.  I remember the display form the early 1960’s.  I don’t know its exact age but the display has been there over 60 years.

A large catfish that can be found in our rivers and ponds. As a kid we could go to the creek and fish for them.  My dad didn’t like cleaning catfish so we never ate them. This is a large catfish with some age on him.

We do have northern pike in the northern part of Iowa. We have one Minnesota lake in our state and some of the larger ponds have been stocked with this fish.  It is a good eating fish. I see that they have buckets in the bottom of the tank so the fish can feel like they are in caves.

The skylight in the horse pavilion works so well to give natural light to the hall. I mentioned earlier that they do come in and remove the dirt and use the area for conventions or concerts.

It is a big area and the horses have a lot to room to work their routines. When the horses are told to walk it takes them a long time to go all around the outer edge.

There was too much motion for me to take good photos.  This one shows how they fly by in front of the outside fence.

The horses are a little nervous when the stop pulling the buggies.  So at the very end and person comes and stands in front of the horse to help steading they while the judge talks and does there thing.

Baby goats, kids, are a hit at the fair.  Some were just born overnight so when you see them walk they are still pretty wobbly. This mother goat had two babies.

Ella’s father is visiting us this weekend. He has been graduated from high school 25 years now. It is fun to see him and catch up on things. We saw him a month ago at his home but now he is all by himself. He has a golfing outing with classmates and a big party for the big night. We will have breakfast with him Sunday morning and send him on his way. Having taught all of his classmates in school in art for many years, it will be  fun to hear what has happened to a lot of them.

We are having a muggy day today.  I am still going to mow my backyard today.  It is just shaggy and needs to be trimmed up a bit.  I hope all is well with everyone out there. We are in an officially declared drought right now. Thanks for checking in today.

That's a pretty water lily but it looks kinda lonely! So happy your son is visiting. It will be nice to receive updates on his classmates. That's a great photo of him with Ella. My grandpa always loved to watch the horses. I love your photo of the tiny baby goats. So sweet. Don't get too hot mowing the back lawn. John is slowly taking down an old privacy fence that we thought was the neighbor's. A recent survey determined it was ours and we ALL are happy to see it gone.
