Frosst on the Pumpkin...

When the temps get down to 29 degrees F. it is time to move the pumpkin inside. It actually sits on the sun room table and we only heat the area when we are out there, so the night temps can get really cold. It can get so cold that it could effect the flowers.  I brought in the blooming Thanksgiving cactus.

I also brought in my succulent bowl. They might like it cold once in a while but I can take care of it this way as it isn't heavy. It can sit next to the palm for a while and also the cactus garden. If I can rearrange my plant stand I may just keep it inside.

I still had things on the deck that I bring in for the winter. I usually find myself wading through snow to bring things in so I am ahead of myself.

We actually warmed up a little this afternoon but it still is cold out there.  The night temps are going to be winter temps.  I guess my out of door work is done enough.  I could trim back some roses but Iif I don't get to it I can do it in February. My time to do just inside projects begins. Thanks for stopping by today.

Middle.....of the Week.

The early morning view is full of pink colors while the sun has not quite raised above the horizon.  We did get to freezing last night but it didn't stay at 30 degrees F. for very long.

The leaves of this clematis will probably show wear and tear from the low temps in the next few days.

The Siberian iris puts out interesting leaves. I never know whether I should cut them back or not. I haven't gotten to it yet this fall but I do have some time to clip a lot of it back. This would be a good time to take a cutting of it and start a new batch somewhere else.

We spent the day at the hospital yesterday. My wife was to have  a final follow up procedure done related to the gallbladder removal a month or so ago. That should conclude anything more to be done relating to that. She was sent home and does feel like she was beat up. She has bruising to her body but she is going to get over it all soon. The sore throat will take a few days to heal.

I need to get some foods this morning that my wife can easily swallow and the grocery store is only a mile away from us. It is cold and wearing a coat to the store will be necessary.

Thanks for stopping by today.

The Start of the Week....

When our developmemt was started the builders were required to plant flowering trees. They seem to be most of them to be the none producing pear tree. Ours is actually one that puts out an apple  fruit. It is a small one but it produces fruit. They make a mess but their a lot of them eaten by the birds. The development was started twenty fours years ago and some homeowners have cut theirs down. My neighbor to the north claimed his had split up too much so he took them out. He actually didn't want trees on his property.

I never got a full moon shot this time as the clouds just were always there. Last night I captured this  mixed up mess of clouds with the moon glow from behind.

There is not beauty left with the coneflower now but I like its sculptural appeal at this time of the year.

I declared my bathroom done today as I put back the last of the baseboard behind the stool. It was difficult.  I was able to do the whole floor with the 30 tiles that was in the box. There was not one square left over. I discover a problem with our new walk in shower as the installers forgot to caulk the slider rail to keep the water from leaking out onto the floor. It had been caulk at the bottom half on the right but they didn't catch the left half. We were having problems with water coming out on the floor and could not figure out why. One has to crawl around on the floor to figure that problem out for sure.

We are going to have rain all day today. We need the water so we can tolerate it without a problem  We do have to have the lights on inside though as it is a dark gray day. Thanks for stopping by today.

Stuff for Saturday....

The hardy geranium survives on my front porch step. It is getting to be time to bring it inside at night or let it freeze.

My new birdbath is made of resin so I have to keep it from freezing water. The turtle and the birdbath have a new place to be for the winter down under the sunroom.

My metallic birdbath has a permanent leak so I made a planter out of it. I decided to put it out for the snow to land on this winter. The moss rose that grew in it are still there and the freezing temps will take them hout.

I took random shots this morning to show what the garden is looking like now.  I am not looking forward to winter but it happens anyway.

Frnst on the Roof.....

If I had placed a pumpkin outside last night I would have had frost on it this morning. It was cold and the frost left the grass wet. I mowed anyway as I had the front yard to finish up We actually had sunshine today and it is welcomed.

I have my mowing done for the season even though I will return to mow leaves under the maple tree. Our rains made the grass grow and the front yards of mine and the neighbor lady's was really long once I started cutting into it.

It is really hard to take just one shot of the blue spruce as it has this competing maple next to it. It actually helps make the spruce look greener.

Inside the cut flowers look great without any risk of cold weather. It is a good spot of color on the dining room table at each meal.

Thanks for stopping in tdoay.

Thursday is Good.....

Our neighbors have cleaned up all of the leaves from the ground that fell from this tree.  As I glance over to see the tree in the distance there are these bright spots of red. I had to get my camera and zoom in to see what they were.  A few stray branches of leaves are hanging on longer than the rest of the tree. I will be watching to see when they finally fall.

I mow and mulched up the leaves from the crimson red maple tree.this morning. It really wasn't dry enough and yet it had enough moisture that I wasn't breathing any of the dust.  As you can see the tree will drop a lot more leaves but I did get the first round done on it. I will mow my front yard tomorrow. I will pick up the neighbor lady's front yard at the same time as it is nice to keep every one's grass length the same height.

The blue ball is moving inside soon.  I have it next to the back door and it it gets bad I can just grab it and bring it inside.  The are projecting the possibility of snow on Saturday so getting these first rounds of mulching done is good. I know that when the snow is gone I can get out and do it again. One has to bundle up a little as it is cold.

Thanks for stopping by today.

Middle of the Week....Rain

It is what it is. I didn't have shoes so I just stood in the doorway and took a shot. The deck was wet from a morning rain. I wanted to get a shot of our maple tree that actually is turning somewhat orange. It is a crimson king maple so the leaves stay pretty dark the whole season. When the drop they look like they are black. I will try to get some new shots taken tomorrow as today seemed to be to busy.

I brought up my Thanksgiving cactus from the basement a few days ago. It isn't going to have a lot of blooms but they will look good and be welcomes.

We had an appointment for my wife today. It was a folly trying to find the clinic as it was somewhere that we were not familiar.  It was a checkup for approval for her one last appointment to remove a stent, which is next week. The stent is in the area where her gallbladder was. She is stronger everyday and walks around with a lot of confidence.

Thanks for stopping by today.

Tuesday....P.M

I have taken the shots of the moon for a long time. Sometimes I just take a break knowing they all look pretty similar. The draw is that when I go out to take down the flag I get drawn in to its glow.  I just have to take one more photo.

While outside I successfully got the view of my outdoor garden light.  I bought it not know that it would do this pattern but I am glad that it does.

I worked on the bathroom floor again today.  I had caulking to do in certain areas along with the edge to the shower. I need to now replace all of the woodwork that I had removed to do a good job. When that is done, I am done. I have one piece of woodwork that is behind the stool that was abused by the three previous owners. I really feel that I need to remove it and sand it down to refresh it. They were slopping painters and it looks like they used a sloppy mop that went up on the wood.

We have one appointment in the morning and it looks like it will be raining too much for me to mow leaves in the afternoon. I can just wait to mulch until the time is perfect. Hopefully it will before we get snow.

Thanks for stopping by today.

Cold but Colorful....

The day finished off with a sight like this in the sky. The sun sets behind the houses so I get the benefit only of its reflection only.

It has been a busy day with my work on the bathroom floor. All that is left to do is replace all the woodwork edging and the door frames with shortened side pieces. It is cold outside and seems like it is gong to be the norm for quite a while.

Sunday PM......

It is time to bring in the decorative bird houses. I have them lined up along the wall under the eave. I will get them inside soon.

My neighbor's maple tree has now lost most of its leaves.  They all lay on the ground around the base of the tree. I used the tree as my measure of how the seasons were changing as when it first started to turn colors at the top to the loss of all its leaves. The tree lost a major branch a few months ago during one of our wind storms.

Different kinds of maples are in my two neighbors' yard are at their stages of loss of leaves. Richie's tree is almost bare tnow with mostly limbs showing now.

The silver maple is an old tree that I can see a few blocks away. It looks like a Halloween tree at this time of the year. I had so many silver maples on my old property in Woodward and gradually I lost them from old age. They were taken down. I enjoy having the good memories of those trees when I see this tree.

Looking down from my deck you can see that my grass has revived. We have had over three inches of rain in the past couple of weeks and it started to grow again. I will start mowing up the leaves soon as soon as I am finished with my bathroom floor project. Tomorrow I will finish the stick tile in the bathroom. Most of the floor is done but I have to do the area around the stool. I was too tired to finish it on Saturday. Crawling around on the floor putting down tile can cause lots of aches and pains. The job looks so good and is covering up 20 year old ugly floor covering that was put down when the house was built. It is a joy to cover up a flooring that some other person picked out so long ago.  I will be glad for Monday to come and move on to the finishing of a project.

Thanks for stopping by today..

Saturday....No Sun Yet....

One more bud is left to open. The orchid is a year old and just bloomed again for me with no effort from me. I just gave it tablespoons of water once a week.

The rains gave my almost dead sedum some redish colors. It seems we have moved to the level of a moderate drought now after a few weeks of spotty rains.

The rose hips are few but there are some. The bush needs to be pruned back and I am  hoping there will be some good fall weather yet in order to do that.

This maple tree doesn't have the most colorful leaves as some other kinds but it is showing some rusty colors this fall. The sun shining on it with the comparison of dark green spruce makes a good color contrast that makes the maple leaves look better.

I will start laying floor tile in the bathroom today.  I don't have any plans to finish it today and I will just finish it on Monday.  I have all the woodwork trim removed and refinished. I have some final decision to make as to what pattern I want to use to put down the tile squares. I tend to like to be creative so the squares may not be all stacked squares. It is a gray dull day so far. We had some rain in the night as the deck is still wet. I can wait to mulch leaves when it drys out some. Have a good weekend.

Friday's Finds....

It is a rough looking sky but we did get clear sky by the noon time. Colder weather is here and I wore a jacket to keep warm when I was outside.

Our view to the south west is a good one but we don't have that many windows on that side. Two different bedrooms face that direction and the front door is our best view. I like to open the door in the afternoon and prop it open to get a good view.  It is our picture window so to speak.  The locust tree is looking good and eventually the burning bush will show off some color. I have to remove the flag on windy days when I know copany is coming as one can get hit in the face on certain days. We have no wind today.

I put my two pots of jade plant outside this late summer. They are back in now with the colder weather. It really helped them to grow bigger and they have a deeper green color.

I was at the lumber store today to pick up a case of my bathroom tiles. While there I picked up some birdseed to start off my fall feeding season. I saw a cardinal at my feeder this morning so I was encouraged to maybe see it again. I will be watching for the birds that migrate from the north. The juncos  stay in our area for the winter and it is a little early to be seeing them.

Thanks for checking in today.

November 7th, Thursday....

When one lives in suburbia you always get to see everyone else's stuff. The trailer and truck are there all of the time. The trailer is full of wood pieces that my neighbor uses to build things.  The locust tree is still holding on to some of its leaves. I don't have enough leaves on the ground yet to start mowing here on the front yard.

My newly transplanted hosta are looking good. They don't get shocked when you yank them out of one area and put it in another area. They have been green for quite awhile and they are changing color now with the seasonal changes. The winds have done a good job of putting leaves on them for the winter.

I like these host at the base of my posts. I keep taking shots of them as they are a great thing to view.

My red bud has dropped its leaves on the north side of the tree. I don't know what the cause is unless it was the strong northerly winds that happen the other day.

I got my new cap on my tooth, #5, today.  I went early for my eight o'clock and they would not let me inside. I have usually been late as the traffic is  bad and there is construction going on at one of the intersections. They had to get the grinder out to make the cap better fit. The temporary fell out twice so I am a little concerned how good this will stay in now for a long time. I have other caps that have stayed in so I really suppose this one will too.

I am a little beat up from the procedure so I am taking it easy today.  I have a new tile selected for the bathroom so I will be measuring out the number that I need to buy. I picked up four samples to lay down so my wife could see what they would look like. It will be nice to get a new floor in there that will match the new shower.

Thanks for checking in today.
