Friday's Finality.......

The last bloom for the season.  It looks to be different red colors depending on the temps and weather. It is the best red color in early spring.  I should like to move a part of it to the opposite side of the garage.

I like the mixture of these two kinds of flowers but I am concerned that the black-eyed Susans will crowed out the cone flower.

The knock out rose that I moved into a new location with real dirt around its roots is showing off now.

The rose was not doing well with the bark soil that I had purchased it in. I guess I leaned my lesson that I need to exchange the soil it is planted in by the nursery.

I am having more blooms than I originally thought would be there. They didn't appear to be doing well but they are showing off with the ones that did bloom.

I worked at the old place today, trimming out small volunteer trees and weeds.  I had another truck full of things but I got exhausted and had to come home.  I had to dump the limbs and things at a town designated area and then returned to dig a couple of mature hosta plants.   I am going to keep planting more hostas as they are so easy to take care of the whole season.

Thanks for stopping by today.

Thursday's Things...

The morning clouds were giving evidence  of our future weather.  I was going to go work at the old place and it was raining off and  on all day. I worked outside in the flower gardens for awhile before heading to Menards.  Then it rained after I returned.  It is much needed rain.

I applied a waterproof material on half of the deck yesterday. I was more than disgusted with it as it was a watery white product. I was frustrated because I bought it last fall and the guy who sold it to me didn't have the positive conviction of knowing what he was sold me.  Anyway, It is working and when things dry out I will apply the rest of it and put on a second coat every where. It is a water based product  so I guess I will give it the test. I really don't want to coat my deck every single year with a finish.

We are going to add one of these to our salad tonight. I hope more of them start to ripen.  I was going to water them today but the rain is doing its job.

I shared this on my other blog. It looks like it is a youngster developing feathers.  I have never seen anything like it. I think he will be a red banned bird on his neck.

The dark days of rain are not so easy to take but we do need rain. We  picked up our evening meal from Olive Garden last night. It is fun to pick it up and bring it home to eat. Living in the big city has its benefits.

I am still uncertain about this new format. I just keep plowing through and hope things get better.  Thanks for stopping by today.

Glad Blooms.....

The glads seem to always be in a leaning mode as the put out their blooms up the stem.

So I keep taking phtos of the moon.  I won't go out anymore until there is a new moon. Usually I can't get the new moon shot as the houses on the hill are block the view.

It is an old painting with no cropping.  It was painted years ago by me at Paradise Beach  along the North Shore of Minnesota.I think it was a Indian Reservation area south of Grand Portage.  I miss our visit to the shore this summer.  We had not gone there for fifteen years and last summer we returned for a long awaited visit. We will go again but not until the vaccine is created and it works.

I need to bring these inside to take good photos. I can't control the background with the glads outside. I just noticed that the sunroom is in the back of the shot. The glad is a pure white one but the camera picks up a little yellow.

I am glad to see the dinner plate hibiscus doing so well. I didn't plan this arrangement was not planned but it seems to be a good one. The wagon wheels were placed there as a storage thing but I think they are placed there permanently.

I was rained out today of my job at the old place. I was going to cut and clear more unwanted growth up there but it seem to be raining up there.  I guess I am flexible and will stay home and mow part of the yard. I have a truck full of trimmed branches in the truck from yesterday's trim job.  I took out the limbs that were leaning into the street.  I also cut away all the hanging branches on the locust tree.  I can walk under it without branches hitting me in the face.

Hoovering at home but I may venture up our hill to the Ace Hardware. I will wear my mask and there won't be a crowd this morning. The corner of the hardware is where two people on a motorcycle were killed on Saturday. They actually hit a truck instead of what usually happens when vehicles hit them. It is big city life here in our town as murders are taking place north of us and big city stuff seems to be going on in our place.

Thanks for stopping by today. Stay safe.

Tuesday's Things

The first tomato picked. It isn't ripe but it will be in a few days. It will be slow at first and then I should have a lot to eat and give away. I need to keep watering them.

The glads are blooming.  Not many of them put buds on them but there will be a few.  I forgot that they really need to be picked and brought in to get good photos. It is a blurry photo.

I bought this a couple of years ago and it growing into a nice set of blooms. It is pale blue like the photo.

I am certain that there are three of them out there feeding. I just know of the three who were fighting in air wars. They are eating a lot of sugar water as I have a ne batch made and cooling ready to be added.

I moved the feeder to a different window to help me get better photos.  The lighting is better out this other window.

I am having problems with the new format for blogger. I really don't know what I am doing. I had good control with the old format. Thanks for stopping by today.

Monday

One of the humming birds is hyper.  He won't stand still while eating.  I don't know when he rests.

My large yellow lily is still blooming with gusto. I would like to move a part of it but don't want to mess up his groove.

The first image of the zinnia that is now blooming. I can see how it will fill in with blooms and foliage but it sure did take a long time for it to happen.

It is a busy day today as we need to take our friend for her treatments. It is an afternoon appiointmet and we go back after her in after a couple and a half hours. I am slowing learning this new format. Blogger said they will force us to use the new format anyway in a few weeks. So I keep learning the new menus and where they.

I thank you for stopping by today.

Sunday PM........

Volunteer tomatoes are the best as they know when to sprout up out of the ground and grow naturally with the season.  I just made that up.  Anyway, I can tell that they are the mortgage busters as the tomato is large and the right shape.

I saw at a garden and home show once where they incorporated the garden hose storage into the landscape design.  This is called lazy man's design.  I don't want to pull it all up the hill each time and it a little decorative.

The phlox seem to take a lot of time to mature.  They seem to take a long time to open its blooms. I have a lot of photos of this variety and it looked so wimpy but now it ia a bold set of flowers.

I have only a few blooms from my glads.  They didn't seem to do well this year.  It looks like I am going to have a couple stems of blooms. I have another planting of these away from the fence. That set of glads has a large rabbit that is enjoying some of the leaves.  I will have a couple of stalks of blooms over there too.

It is a lazy Sunday afternoon.  It looks nice outside but it did get warmed up after the noon hour. Large clouds keep floating by and they are fun to watch while in the sun room. The humming birds are flying around fighting over the feeder.  They are also eating from the large yellow blooms on the neighbors squash and cucumber vines. They have less problems in the vines as they can't see each other among the large vine leaves.

Stay safe out there. Thank you for stopping by today.

The Corn and the Moon......

It is almost a full moon. I never know how to crop the shots but sometime the movement of the camera decides that. Our tof three photos that I too only one captured the whole thing. I had to stand on the slanted down front yard and it is hard to get it to be steady.

When it is borderline, close to being a full moon, I sometimes wonder why I just don't wait for it that having it look partial. I did have to wait for a cloudless night and it may not be clear for the next few evenings.

Shucking corn is rewarding when you see corn looking like this.  In the old days as a kid we would shuck corn ant there would be all sizes of corn and some worms once in a while.
This hybrid variety aims to please and it really does.

We have had two meals with corn and I froze the rest.  I really like it on the cob and I easily found it easily on a corner of the street on my way home from the old place. A bakers dozen seems to be the policy for this company which is a farm south of our city.

My gift project from my former student of 15 years ago sits in a heap right now.  It is the wrong time of the season for me to work on it. I suppose I could do one drawer at a time on rainy days. I have found a restored one like this but the pulls are not quit like it. It is all walnut in front, top and sides. The joints are all in need of restoration.

It is a nice day today. I mowed the front of the yard yesterday and I will do the back today.  It has been a couple of weeks since I mowed it and it looks shaggy.  I am just glad that it is green.  We are in a partial drought so things can change to the good or to the bad pretty quickly. It is now August so anything can happen. Heat waves with severe storms are always a possibility.

Thanks for stopping by today. Stay safe and strong.
