Finishing it Off....

The sun has yet to show but the glow shows its intent.  The vapor trails of the jets gives us a pattern to study while we wait for the sun.

It is eleven o'clock at the evening and I decided to get a shot.  I saw someone else's photo on fb.  Wearing socks, shorts and a t-shirt was not proper attire.  The wind was blowing and I snapped as soon ans it focused.  I can't believe that my shivering didn't make it blurry.  I ran back inside gasping and shaking.  That was a dumb thing for me to do. I'm not a teen ager but that is what I was acting like.

Bad memories go with this trellis.  I was trying to put it together and had no strength to do it.  It was tight fitting but I didn't know how sick that I was.  Fast forward two years plus and I am so much better. I survived and deal with the residue of my ailments.  I should buy another trellis and put it together with renewed strength.  Our freeze, if it happens, will take out the morning glories.

The asters are doing well right now.  They still look needy for moisture.  This is a plant that just doesn't show up so soon in the spring.  It just shows up by July and I can see the buds forming in late August.

I need to move this guy.  It is sitting among weeds and two bushes have over grown it.  I am sure I can get it moved soon.

I am going to miss this field of flowers.  I am sure their end is near.  I still have to dig the glads that are growing at the back of the zinnias.  I will be busy picking tomatoes this pm to bring them in from the cold.  The can ripen inside.  Thanks for stopping by today.

Things.....

Migrating birds harassed the neighborhood all morning yesterday.  They were so jittery that I never did get a close up shot of them to see what kind of bird that it is. They seems to be all grey.  They made a lot of noise walking on the roof of my neighbors. I have tried to find them on the internet and just don't see what kind that it is.  They were built a lot like a robin but yet had not bright colors.

The buds are bright colored but the open flower lightens to a pale yellow.  The final maturity of them makes them appear white.

Down our street at the corner lot is this dog.  He barks at me anytime he sees me out working.  I think his behaviors remind me of out border collie as he seems to bark at everyone that goes past his land.  He isn't mean but I think he wants people to notice him. He has one blue eye.

I zoomed in on him and can see he has longer hair.  He is mottled  and does have a long tail.  I have heard him bark often but never had my camera out to check him out.  He loves to see dog walkers and really gets excited when people go by.  He shares his back yard with two  young children.  These neighbors are the third set of people to live there in the past five years. I may have to walk down and meet him.

I mowed in the front yard this morning while wearing my parka and hood.  I also trimmed back three more peony bushes this morning and stuffed them in the recycle bag.  I have only one bush to go to be done with the clearing of them.  I keep wanting to clear away the stems and seed pods from my yucca plants but I keep seeing birds feeding on them.  The stalks are not so good looking but it is a natural thing to see on yuccas.  We will be cold for most of the day warming up to 72° F. by late afternoon.  It is fall here now for sure.  Thanks for stopping by today.

Middle of the Week's Worth....

The photo has the full body of the blue jay but not all of the beak.  He didn't hang around long enough for me to get a better photo. He was working on the suet for a short time.

Our robins have headed south quite a long time ago. There is a group of them migrating through right now.  I saw them on the fence and wondered what kind of bird is that.  My camera zoomed in and showed me robins. All birds north of us do have to pass our way.  We had a flock of birds later this morning in our yard and I could not identify it.  I could never get a photo of them on the ground but I did a shot of them in the sky.  I will share it tomorrow. It was a large flock of over a hundred or more.

I moved a wooden birdhouse from this post to another one out by the fence.  I ran out of birdhouses.  I looked up in the shop today and saw some clay birdhouses that I had made from slabs of clay.  Made them years ago as class demonstrations for my students.  This one fits good right there on that empyt post.

My neighbors to the north have mums that look like this.  They have looked good every year since we lived here.

This is mine.  They never have looked full and thick.  I didn't plant them.  There must be a difference in the variety of mums.  Judy said that she trims here off at the end of the fall and doesn't touch them.

My front trees are not changing but this one branch is turning.  I know the rest of the tree will follow but it will take some time.

Mowed the back half of my yard this morning.  I got rained out for a while and had to wait for it to dry out so that I could finish it.  We hit 70° F. this afternoon at four o'clock and we are now cooling off again.  Thanks for stopping by today.

Tuesday's Things....

The color was short lived but I am glad I caught it.  I was up early or I would have missed it. I can see the trees are a little fuzzy.

I brought in some new zinnias. The vase of ones that I had before had dried out ones for a few weeks.

I have read about gardeners who create all white flower gardens so they can enjoy them in the evening.  I took this at almost dark and the flowers did seem to pop.  These petunias revived from a drought and this is the best they have looked all summer.  The hardy geranium also took a rebound with rains and cooler weather.

I thought the battery was shot on this light but it is working.  I put it into the pot recently as the ground was so dry that it kept falling out of the soil and laid on the ground.

This photo is the cause of the night shots that I was taking last evening. I have had a hard time finding it as the phase was putting it behind my trees and I couldn't see it. It was out in the open and in the southwestern sky.

I have had a sluggish day today but I did get some things done.  I need more energy.  Thanks for stopping by today.

My Stab at a Blog......

I dug up an iris this morning that was being over shadowed by an old fashion rose bush.  I dug only half of it  but had enough rhizomes  to replant in three different locations.  I may have another to move but I was glad to get that one out of the shade.

I cut off dead coneflower stems and other older plants out of my front garden bed.  I had a waste basket full of dead things and the flower bed looks so much better.  I started my trimming of the peonies today.  I only clipped off two of them and I can see it looked a lot better.  I will do a few everyday until they are all done and place the stems into the recycle bags.  I really am not ready to clear gardens but it is nice to start work on it.  I have glad bulbs that I can also dig and lay them out to dry before storage.

It has been a pleasant day today. Thanks for stopping by today.

Sunshine Day......

The pink one is not as showy.  I forgot it was planted there until I turned the pot around to carry it inside a few days ago.  The begonia is still a nice plant that carries over each year when I bring it in from the cold.

I find it interesting how the red pigment shows up when the blue morning glory is in declined from the day before.

I am so glad to see these iris take off and grow.  I moved them from a wet clay-like soil to this new one. It likes where I planted it. I have a few more that I am going to be moving in the next few days.  I move plants around like some people move around their furniture.

Our morning sky is looking differently this time of the year.  The reddish clouds show up at such a short period of time.

A day off from work is good.  I finished cleaning all the vinyl siding so I can get back to doing fun things.  Pottery and gardening are both in my future.  Our weather is colder, as our high in temps happens at four in the afternoon.  I have neighbor on both sides mowing their yards but I don't mow until Wednesday.  I stick to my schedule as I have more important things to do.  We took off for lunch today at Taco Bell.  Rarely we go there but it is always fun to have a new thing to eat.  Thanks for stopping by today.

Saturday's Showings.....

I finished washing the front of the house yesterday.  It was the easiest side to do as it is made of many windows and a door.

I completed the power washing of the house this morning.  It was an acrobatic act to get the high places.  I have a slanted hill so I had to put things under the ladder's right leg to raise it up so it had level standing.  I drove a steel post next to the wood piece so it would not shift while I was on the ladder. I never owned a house with vinyl siding so I didn't know I was suppose to be washing it.  I hosed it down with a garden hose on one side a couple of years ago but this year it got its spring cleaning in the fall. Glad to be done.

I was only able to make a couple of pots this week as I was hunkered down on getting the house done. It is getting cold so I will have to bundle up to work on the outside potter's wheel.  I will have to just quit doing it until spring when it gets to be winter.

It is a  great looking day out there and we are going to warm up by the afternoon to 74° F.  by the middle afternoon. Enjoy you weekend and thanks for checking in today.
