Fall Weather Plus.....

Subtle colors because it is in the shade.  I like the deeper values of red that are created here by nature.

I have a smaller front yard and it is almost green again.  I still have some dormant spots in the yard but the scattered rains have brought us back to spring grass.

I like the colors of Russian sage.  I have never noticed the little blue flowers on these sprigs of flowers until I saw this photo. A new thing that I noticed today that the sage does smell like sage.  I suppose the leaves could be used like sage but don't quote me on that.

The trio of plants make up a nice combination. The hosta is starting to fade but the sedum is in its prime.  The asters on the right are still in early blooms.  I need to get a bucket of water and pour it on the aster plant.

We are cold for this time of the year. I had to turn on the heater just two days after I had the air conditioner repaired.  Tomorrow  is predicted to be a high of 62° F.  I will wear my parka again tomorrow with the hood pulled up while working outside.  I now we are now officially into the fall season.  I don't like the next season.   Thanks for checking in today.

Middle of the Week.

The clouds in the east were reflecting the sun setting in the west.  It was good color and lasted about 20 minutes before it all went gray.

More orange colors are found in these marigolds.  I thought I had saved some yellow marigolds but these seem to be the only seed that grew.

The photo just wouldn't be balanced without the blurry flower in the right, foreground.  The zinnias are liking the cooler weather today and a few sprinkles did encourage them.

The dinner plate hibiscus is putting out some late blooms.  It normally blooms in the spring but coming out of a drought it probably thinks it is spring again.

I mowed the backyard today while wearing a parka to keep warm.  It did get up to 70° as a high today.  I had lots of chores to do this morning and the cool weather was helpful.  It was good to get our air conditioner fixed the day before as we did get very warm then but today it is barely running.

Thanks for checking in today.

Tuesday Morn....

We were up early in the morning as we were having air conditioning problems.  We had a warm night inside at 77°.  The repair company was called at eight o'clock sharp and I had an appointment for a visit at eleven.  Alberto called me an  hour earlier than that and asked if he could come sooner as his schedule had cleared.  He was the miracle man replacing two capacitors  and having our compressor fan back to running within twenty minutes.  It has taken four hours for the house to cool down to 72°.   We are now comfortable again.  It is going to get up to 95° today so are glad we are back in the know of having air conditioning.

Our Chicago area family of five have been hit with covid.  They all now but one have tested positive for it.  I am hoping their symptoms stay mild and the get better quickly. Mild doesn't mean that they aren't sick. The grand daughter is doing better and dad is doing a little better. They had been keeping everyone separated but it seemed they are all infected.  Who knows where they picked it up but the two boys do attend school regularly.

I had to work around the repairman's appointment so I did not get the yard mowed today. It was too hot by the time he left for me to go outside.  I will mow the first half tomorrow and I have other projects looming out there for me to do before winter hits.

Thanks for stopping by today.

Sunday

Sunday morning sunrise looked promising but we are now overcast.  It is warmed up some and yet no sun in sight. It just feels like a day after a hard rain.

The flight patterns change that come out of the DSM airport periodically.  We are now hearing and seeing lots of passenger jets flying over us right now. We have lived here long enough to not notice the sounds and yet if you hear one early morning while lying awake I wonder where the plane originated.  Probably Chicago or Minneapolis.

The other day we also saw a plane with its circular radar device going over from out of Texas.  It flies in to our Fort Des Moines Army location which isn't probably eight miles away as the crow flies.

I planted some stray seeds from the years past in a window planter.  They are growing up the trellis but the first one to bloom is just sticking out the side of the pot. When seeing the color of the morning glory I am thinking these seeds were given to me by a former student years ago. Stephanie is now married and lives in Kansas City area with her husband and two daughters.  She would be surprised to see that I finally planted them.

It isn't a work of art but sometimes one just needs to remove it all and put it back in better.  I had a tiller in the back of the shed that I needed to get out of there. I am going to share it with my neighbor and it has been stored back in there for five years. It really wasn't that easy but I am glad. I inherited the tiller as the previous owners moved to Boston and live in a condo.

The roses are responding to the rains.  We got three-fourths of inch of rain through the night.  It was needed. It is raining again right now as I type the last of this blog.  I bet I will need to mow the yard again this week for sure.  Thanks for checking in today.

Leftovers....Review.

Shots that never made the blogs of the past.  No theme other than they all the things I observe in the garden.

The water spout go a workout early this morning as we had plenty of thunder and lightening. The hostas are liking their new growing spots.  It is going to be a cooler day and right now seems very overcast.  We need the rain.  Thanks for checking in today.
