A Day at the Fair........again.

The grand stand is an old building with a lot of history.  We met a man while eating our pork chop sandwich, who was complaining about the races not being held anymore.  They had car races and also horse races twenty years ago. Being that we have a major race track in the state right now I assume the fair didn’t need to supply that anymore. I remember years when they sold things in the rooms under the grand stand. They had antique business come in and sold items also. The main road along the fair is almost completely shut down and is ti needed to move people through the fair.  There are still tractors pulling trailers transport people up and down the hills.

One stage looks like a large butterfly. An energy company built it and concerts are held here off and on each day. People were getting seated for something while we were up at the top of this hill visiting art contests and photo contests. Both of those were way too crowded. You can’t have those kind of exhibits when you can not walk through them.

We are not big fans of pork but we usually eat at this place at the fair.  We get a meal with a pork chop sandwich.  This guy had huge pork pieces on the grill and they did have to use a thermometer to check their temperatures. I could not eat that much meat.

All of the political candidates usually show up here and flip pork chops to show off.  One of the guys was a vegetarian but he flipped meat anyway.  I think there are about 27 different politicians. At least half of them showed up cooking pork. One of the people we ate by said that they also like to come around and pour ice tea for people for free.  We didn’t get to see that.

Every once in a while we would glance around and see the ladies with crowns walking around.  It was sort of a strange sight as they had crowns that reminded one of Burger King hats. They had them all dutifully bobby pined to the top of their heads. I think they were a group of the county queens who were about doing promotions.  We have 99 counties so I know they were not all of them.

One of the newer buildings was filled with new born animals.  Here is a new lamb that was born at the fair.  The had calves and kids that were born there during the overnight hours after all the crowds have left.

Baby chickens and ducks were also hatched on the spot along with some turkeys.  I couldn’t get pictures of the ducklings as the peopler really crowded around them and I seem to never get a good opening to snap a picture.

The whole fair was a very crowded happening.  I am still glad that we did go.  The weather got to be too hot in the afternoon but we were ready to go by four o’clock anyway.

At another time the crowned processes came out and visited the duck pond.  You can see better how they looked a little out of place with all those crowns. It was said that one of the princesses helped with a sow who was having piglets. The photo on the net shows she didn’t take off her crown which working.
