Middle of the Week

Our red friend shows up at certain times of the day eating with whatever bird that is there. He does his calls more in the morning but once in a while you can hear him late afternoon in the pine tree.

I am not being successful lately with good shots of the hummers. I moved a set of chimes out of the way so I can get shots with clearer backgrounds.

I did go ahead and hang my second feeder out there. In rare occasions two hummers will feed at the same time at the different ones. I haven't seen the male one for a while so I am glad I did get a good picture of him a week ago.

There is a size difference of the young doves and the adults but when I zoom in the new ones  look like adults.

While shooting through the deck railing you can see the garden angel is watching over things. I got a call from my brother and he was happy. He was surprised to find out he was now a great grandfather. The oldest grand daughter married last summer but he didn't know what had happened. The new couple fled San Francisco and moved to Chicago recently. Then he just heard that they had a baby girl. This will be my very first grand niece.  The name is up in the air but he heard that our mother's name will be a part of her name. The name Zella goes back to my grandmother, born in 1897, and my mother born in 1919. It will be interesting to see what they place with it. I rally was never around to know the new mother much other than I had seen her when she was very young. They lived in Ohio and we never crossed paths. Christmas cards from my niece kept us up to date on the four kids.

It was still 80 degrees F. at three in the morning. It didn't cool down that much later so I was hot when I worked outside this morning. I planted some more of my iris that I am moving and watered them all in. I also cleared with a potato fork one of my garden areas for planting of marigolds and more zinnias. As I was thinking I needed to get the garden hose out to spray water the seeds in, but then we got a thunderstorm. It was great but it did shut down my working outside. I get use to wet shirts from working outside but the rain really soaked up my shirt. I fixed a drain pipe from the eaves trough and was glad I had spare parts to replace the tube that I had stepped on and dented. I avoided a trip to the hardware to buy a high prices metal drain pipe.

Thanks for stopping by today.
