Cake Addiction........
Cake seems to have a way to call out my name whenever it is near me. I arrived to school and open the refrigerator in the lounge. There was left over cake. It was my job to taste test it and it was so good. Above are some carrot cake cupcakes that we picked up at a Walmart sales rack.
I know that I am working the Christmas cactus into my blog way too many times. The thing is that I want to show you is what I have never noticed before about the tip of the bloom. It is like it is bloom with zeal and it keeps stretching out there and so they had to put the cherry on top.
I wanted to share with you another photo of the one lone house finch at my feeder over the weekend. He looks like he is picking out the most special seed. The feeder has an inch or more of snow on top of it this morning as we received snow all Sunday afternoon.
I am in the English room of the high school today. It is all the lower classman grades of basic beginning English. It should be a pretty good day. When the sub writes that this one class has some good people in it, it makes me think the the majority of the class must be bad people. I will survive.
Did you notice that I didn't post yesterday. I have decided not to write my two blogs on Sundays anymore. Unless there is something I just can't wait to share, I will be away from the computer on Sundays.
Thanks for stopping by today.........

Snow on the multiple roofs.........
It is Saturday and I am still plugging along slowly. The week long siege of the head cold and such took its toll on my energy level. I work for a while and then I sit down. I have some framing to mess with today and we also need to go get some mat board for some new projects.
Someone brought me their replica of a $100,000 check that he won in the lottery games. They want it framed but don't want to spend too much on it. Catch the joke there? He said it he didn't want to put too much money in the frame or the job in general. You can see why I have worked myself out of the business as much as possible.
I asked my wife if we went to Hobby Lobby to get framing and art supplies that maybe we could pick up a sandwich somewhere. We might actually venture over to a bookstore or something like that. It will be nice to get out of the house. We are out of dog food and orange juice so we have to go somewhere anyway.
My Christmas cactus has decided to bloom all over again. I bought it with a third of it in bloom and wow it is has new buds all over it again. I guess my climate is so different than the greenhouse it came from that it thinks it is spring again. It has been a week since I started the violet slips and they are all looking very good. I slipped the whole container of new starts into a clear plastic bag to help keep the soil moist. I will have to remember the date to see how long it takes them to sprout new leaves.
Speaking of the subject of coffee prices, they sure crept up and stayed there. With the gasoline prices being forced onto us and the coffee being so sky high I am wondering what next will we be hit with in the future.
I did finally buy a six dollar jar of peanut butter the other day. It was a very large container and it ended up being about what the regular price should be if you proportioned the amount per cost.
I am taking a break from coffee for a while and the price should be of no concern. I will be back on the wonderful beverage some day again but not right now. I bet the price will still be high when I return to it.
It is sunny again today and the temperature is 16 degrees this morning. I guess we will get above freezing later today but the sunshine is so welcomed.
Thanks for stopping by my post today.

Saturday's Stuff.........
It is starting to open it's blooms. This is the side that wasn't in bloom when I bought the plant at the lumber store. I couldn't get the sticker off of the pot so I removed the foil around the pot and it now sits inside a terracotta clay flower pot. I will have to work on getting a drainage container under it.
The bloom of a Christmas cactus are unusual looking with the two sets of ruffles and then a bunched together group of stamens at the point.
Another shot at a different angle. I didn't dare sit that clay pot onto the dining room table or I would be in trouble. I had just washed the pot and it was dry but still had moisture on it and wasn't dry.
I thought I was through taking photos but then I saw the light shining through it from across the room.
We are snowed in today as the snow keeps coming and the roads are very slippery. This is an early morning photo of the neighbor's bungalow. If and when it stops snowing they will start to clear the streets. I ran up to the local grocery to pick up important things for survival in the early morning when it was just starting to snow. It takes short breaks and we look like it has stopped snowing, then it starts up again. Weather people are saying we will receive about 5 to 8 inches in our area.
I do have plans to go back out for more photos as the evergreens are really loaded down with snow. I will wait until later in the day as it will be the best build up of snow for me to show you.
Thanks for stopping by my post today.

Wednesday's Wanderings........
I looked at the African violets today at Lowe's and I resisted the temptation. I have a lot of them even though most of them are all the same color.
What I did buy was a bag of tulip bulbs. Our ground is not frozen so I can still get them into the soil. I bought them for under two dollars. I have not planted new ones in a few years so it will happen the next few days.
I looked at the Christmas cactus and found this one to be the right size and price. I don't like how they put their starts in the soil in such a random way. It looks like they did it while they were moving down a conveyor belt. They need to root in more and maybe they would stand up a little more. I am not so sure that the potting soil is the right thing for them as it looks like starter soil and not real soil. It is light and fluffy and the pieces act like they could fall out of the container.
I haven't had one of these for a long time and I actually had more colors than pink to choose from. The white ones are nice but the red one really caught my eye. I really don't need more plants to care of but these plants take a lot less care and watering.
Thanks for stopping by today. I hope everyone will have safe travels for tomorrow and that it will be a good Thanksgiving Day for you.
