No migration.......

My wife did a little research about this year's migration of the monarch butterfly and she found that they missed us by many hundreds of miles. For some reason the took a route that was west of the flooded Missouri River this year. The temperatures and weather apparently effects the movement of the group of butterflies as they travel south to Mexico.

We did have a dozen or so yesterday out on the zinnia flowers.  It was, I suppose, what one would call a minor migration.  They were headed south but they were a small bunch and really are late by three weeks or more.  Maybe next year they will decide to come through Iowa again as they have so many years.

My wife took this wonderful shot a month ago when we had just a few hanging around for the summer.

The red leaves are always my favorite on the maple trees.  I am not looking forward to them being gone as I really don't think I am ready for winter.

Thanks for stopping by and take care.

Fall color everywhere......

The Aiatic lilies have interesting coloration as fall sets in and prepares them for the winter.

The tree across the street is turning yellow and leaves are starting to fall.

I am in the English room at the high school level today.  I am glad to have a break from the middle school students as they do take a lot of energy to keep them on task.  I spent the day yesterday with the chainsaw and some trees at the farm.  I will welcome a day off from that physical exercise.  I told my brother in law that a chainsaw gives off a far greater workout than any piece of gym equipment.

Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your Wednesday.

The alley view.....

While checking out the river birch I looked across the alley and saw the neighbors maple tree peaking over the roofscape.

The zinnia beauties are almost gone now.  I captured this with the Canon and it acts funny with reds just like my point and shoot camera. It is a great color but not the real color of the zinnia.

I did battle with a chainsaw today keeping it running so I could cut up trees down on the farm. I am not a mechanic that understands the chainsaw that well but I am learning.  I bought a new spark plug for it and it ran like a charm.  A new chain also made a great difference in my sawing successes.
Needless to say I may not be able to walk tomorrow with all those new muscles I found while using the saw.

It warmed up nicely today and it was a good warm day.  Everyone take care and thanks for stopping by my blog.

Sunny Sunday........

The view of the sun shinning through the leaves helps to show the form of the trunk of the tree.

It is a nice yellow but the birch this year is mixed with dead leaves. The color is not a clear light yellow. This is the opposite side of the tree with the sun shinning on the tree.

I hope everyone has a restful day and that your weather is good. We are having a great fall temperature wise but it will not last. I need to mow grass and leaves soon as they will start to build up out there. Thanks for stopping in...............

Fall sets in........

You can tell it is fall when the days turn rainy and cold for a few days at a time and the sun is very noticeably shining further south .  Our tomorrows forecast does call for a totally clear day and warmth again.

I bought some new mums this year and I am hoping they do bloom soon. The established mums in the neighborhood are already in bloom so these guys are late.

While thinking of bringing in the plants this fall, I will bring these geraniums in the window planter in for another winter.

AAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!

I am experiencing trouble with blogging again. As Google has me on a setting that now demands I upload all the photos that I want to use on my blog into a file on Picasa. They want me to retrieve them from that file. I had not known that every photo that I placed in the blogs that I write all end up into Picasa and I can retrieve photos that I have blogged before easily enough but I want to add new photos.

Right now I am going into settings and changing it back to the older format and when I get the photos downloaded I go back and change the settings to the newer format. It is driving me crazy. I know we have been here before with blogspot but I don't know it it will correct itself like it did in the past.

I have a few Picasa web albums already in which I used to download past wedding photos but I don't even know how to get there except through that bookmark. I will have to educate myself to change my ways if this continues. I remembering complaining the last time that this is two more steps to get to the adding of photos process in blogging.

My wife is also on blogspot and this problem doesn't exist for her.  I guess time will tell.  Have a good weekend even if it is inside.
Thanks for stopping by.............
