Wednesday's Wanderings........
The wanderings are not going to take you too far today. I have this area cleaned out from the major weeds and the evidence of some bad things are still growing where the grass is suppose to grow. My angel guy just doesn't care about any of it and he expresses it to me.
It is a busy day today so I created a short wandering today. This is one of my newest hosta that I have had a couple of years. I just moved it out from under a redtwig dogwood and moved it out into the sunlight. It is doing well in two different locations. The winds of the past month has really dried out the ground and we are said to be in a drought right now. A scattering of rains may be coming the next few days and the hostas will be glad to get some moisture.
It's the last day of school for me today. I will be helping put away the high school's individual laptops that they carried all year. There should be the handling of over two hundred computers in bags place on shelves. I will be helping with that task. Have a good day. Thanks for stopping by my post.
Thanks for stopping by here.

Wednesday's wanderings......
The wild roses in my backyard are starting to bloom. They show their flowers rapidly and it seems like they are gone too quickly. The buds are everywhere but the blooms have some splotchy color because of the cold snap a month ago in April.
When the warm front came through in March it caused a lot of changes in the plant growth. The hostas are large. It usually takes most of spring for them to mature. I know that parts of Alaska where the daylight stays for most of the day that plants do grow bigger. I think our early summer weather cause these guys to move up two months. I keep thinking the hosta to the right might be a family member to the one called "Sum and Substance." It has very large leaves and looks like I will need to split it up for new growth.
I kept a redwood flower box planted with chives. I have had it for years as it just came up every year. We liked using it on our baked potatoes. For some reason the whole thing died out the last winter. I planted some new starts from another part of my garden and it is timidly taking off and growing. It will be a few years before that box fills up again. I will put fresh soil in it again this year to revive it's growing matter.
The field lilies are actually taking off early this year also. I have Asiatic lilies in there and they usually are bigger, taller than the field lilies when they bloom. This is a view off my west side of the patio for those newbies who don't know my backyard.
This iris is blooming right now. The ones that came from my parents property are blooming at the neighbors but mine will be a few more days to open. She has them planted on the north side of the house and one would think they would bloom earlier than ones that are out in the sun.
I am tech guy today but tomorrow I have been promised a busier day. The high school is taking off in the afternoon leaving all the different middle school classes that high school teach, open. I will probably jump from social studies to English to math to pe all afternoon.
I took an old man spill yesterday while pitching in middle school pe. I had bad shoes that wouldn't allow me to stop being propelled towards a ball that I was trying to catch. I fell on my shoulder, doing a tuck and roll, then rolled right over summersault, was back on my feet and the one little girl tossed me the ball to start pitching again. I didn't have time to think about what had happened but am a little achy today. I guess the little girl thought I was 13 and I roll around while playing the game all the time.
Thanks for stopping by my post today.

Wishing to go back outiside.....
I dug the oxalis last weekend and it already is leaning toward the light. I enjoy it in this window all winter but maybe I will have to move it to the larger dining room window. I have another smaller start of this to dig and bring inside and maybe it can be set here instead.
The hostas are all in the decline stage. Some are totally wilted and turned yellow. I transplanted a larger hosta this early summer and divided it into many new plants, so I should have some more mature specimens next year to enjoy scattered all over the back yard.
It might be music to some one person's ears but it sure wasn't to mine. When I was in the band room all day I was entertained with the kids coming in to do lessons. I could not give them a lesson but I did demand that they practice. They don't want to practice much and they think it isn't necessary.
The toughest ones to listen to are the drummers who don't have music to play with as they beat the drum. I know they are suppose to learn the beat and lead others but these guys needed to follow along for a while. . I think if they were playing with music that they could learn tempo a whole lot faster. The sixth graders vary in skill and I did complement one guy who was more aggressive as he played and seemed to know rhythm.
I remember the story of my oldest son who played first trumpet in the High School Jazz Band. They competed often and played the same three songs while attending the different events. I could hear those three songs in my mind in my sleep. The drummer that played with his senior year was just the nicest guy and was a good drummer, but Andy our son, said he found that the drummer was always following him instead of the other way around. Not being able to play anything I never noticed it until he pointed it out to us.
It was a long day in the band room yesterday. I had three different large groups come in and then I had little elves, come in throughout the day, each with different skills. The girls with clarinets doing Christmas music were pretty good. I told my wife that I had become somewhat bored being someone else yesterday though. It can make a person wish to go back to middle school math. Not!!!
Thanks for stopping by and have a great Wednesday.

A Splash of Color
When one has only a select small amount of flowers of which to take pictures my audience gets to see the same flowers over and over again.
These leaves are almost gone now as this picture was taken a few days ago and now they have withered in the wind.
It is Saturday and we are going to go to the bookstore this morning. It has been a long time since we have ventured out to go any place but the grocery store.
It is getting to be time to start raking up and clearing flower gardens. I have a few weeks to get it all done and my leaves don't really fall from the silver maples until November.
Have a good weekend and take care. Thanks for stopping by........

Harvest of the present and the future.....
My tomato growing was a sad endeavor. I have just a few roma's and the one normal sized plant has grasshoppers making caves through the tomato. I will throw this one large one away as it has been chewed up too much to save.
My success story will be the yellow squash crop. I have nine of these as of last count. There are more but they are probably not going to make it to maturity by the first frost. I will show them all to you when I get them picked.
A followup story on the moving of the hostas is now complete. I have a photo of the hosta that I moved out from under the redtwig shurb and now it will be growing in sight for us to enjoy. I split it and have two different areas where it is planted.
I got switched. I was suppose to be in an air conditioned room yesterday at school while subbing, but I didn't get to stay there. Another staff person called in sick and he was the shop teacher. That particular building is not cooled and is an older concrete block building. It was cool most of the morning and then the sun started to warm up the block walls and the humidity set in for good. We all were windblown from sitting around with the three fans blowing to keep us from being too hot. Yes it was more of a good thing that me, the guy, went out to the shop to teach and the young lady took the social studies classes. I was good with it and it was a somewhat good day. School actually was let out early as the many portions of the different buildings are not cooled and the heat was too much for some of the classrooms.
I did get called to come back in today to be the shop teacher again. I guess the guy is really sick.
It is Friday and I hope you all have a great weekend. We have no plans here but may find a brother in law and his wife to eat breakfast with one of the mornings. Take care.......

Mowing and moving day.........
I spent Wednesday morning and part of the afternoon mowing my yard. As I mow I see things that need to be done but normally don't take the time to do. Wednesday was different as I went to the tool shed and found my best spade and started to work. I moved a newer hosta from an area that was away from the house and we were never able to enjoy it. I dug it up, split it into two plants and brought to the side yard gardens. I will photograph the actual plant in a few days to show you the design and color of it.
My neighbor shared this flag iris with me a few years ago and I decided it just wasn't doing well next to the fence. I left half of it there but move a good part of it out five feet away from the fence so that it would be in the sun. I know it grows like a weed next door so I need it to be in the hot sun.
Also out at the corner of my property I have this redtwig bush that is becoming overgrown. I also notice that it was sending out sprouts and creating new plants next to it. I dug up the end of a runner and have a very good start that I planted next to the front porch stairs. It will look good there and it is nice to get a free shrub.
I also moved another smaller plant of which I don't remember the name. It was being crowded out by the yucca plants. It has smaller yellow blooms that are on a fern-like foliage stems but I just can't pull the name out from my little gray cells.
I am substitute teaching today in the high school. It will be very hot today and I will be nice and cool in the newer air conditioned classroom. There aren't going to be many teachers gone the first of the year but some are off doing or attending workshops. I did sub for a sick teacher last week who had a summer cold.
Thanks for checking in on my site.........Friday is coming!!!
