Saturday's Things.....

 The cold weather and wind is taking its toll on the zinnias. If your are tired of seeing them, they will be gone soon. I was inside yesterday so I checked on things this morning. I found my oxalis was shocked from the cold and it will be ok now that it is inside. I also see that I can clear away tomato plants as they all were hit by the cold.  I brought my begonia plants inside but they didn't get hurt from the cold. 

 

The group of flowers has started to decline. I will cut and bring in some bouquets when it warms up outside. 

My only knock out rose in the back yard is blooming freely. The neighbor garden to this has an old established knock out that is tall. It too is full of blooms. I moved it to this location early spring and I really like how it has developed in the new spot.

 

The hardy geraniums have done poorly this summer.  I am going to dig them and try to get them to bloom this winter. I didn't water them enough so I didn't get many blooms. I will be glad to have them bloom in the basement windows during a snow storm. 

I lost another person from my class yesterday. He was with me k-12 and lived in southern Iowa on his grandfather's farm.  I have lost two other classmates in the last years. Gary was a good friend when I would see him but I didn't see him often. The class of 1968 continues to shrink in size from a small group of 29 students. 

Nothing much to achieve today but I will just rest. I had a visit with my new doctor yesterday. I have new and different food choices to make now. Thanks for stopping by today.

Pastel Petals....

 We did not freeze last night but we will some of these days very soon. The day was very windy and the dust did fly. Thanks for stopping by today.

Thursday's Things.....

 Wednesday evening as the sun was setting. The rays of ilight were filtering through the clouds in all directions.  The tree is the neighbors birch tree. 

 

The table in the basement is the ripening table for the tomatoes. I was storing them on the patio table and then bringing them in. It is getting too cold now for that step so they get to come in immediately. 

The cold weather has taken some of these vines down but this one is a little more protected under the sun room floor. 

The tomato vines are almost cleared but the marigold will be cleared once we get a hard frost. I will need to dig up the soil this year to get it ready for next year. Who knows if I will plant any tomatoes next year.  I guess three or four tomatoes would be better than a dozen of them in the plot.

Memories on Wednesday

 I discovered old photos on my cell phone. On a day of our tour in Israel my battery died on the camera and I had to us the iPhone. This is the far north end of the Sea of Galilee. The Jordan River flows into this body of water. It has been a year since we visited Israel. We had fish and chips at cafe there. You can see the land on the other side of the lake.

 

Later that evening we boarded a boat to sail the Galilee. As the land lays the sun is setting and if one traveled  further west one would run into the Mediterranean Sea.I kept trying to get shots of the moom and I see in this photo that I did.

I was glad to find the photos on my phone.  I will share them a few at at a time. Thanks for stopping by today. Thanks for stopping by.

Things........

 Clouds were around early in the morning but all are gone. It is a windy day I bet they were blown away.

The flowering trees in front do have some red leaves and will keep dropping the next few weeks  The drop their leaves quickly so they can be raked up as a big bunch. 

Tuesday's things seem to be so similar but yet they are new photos.  Thanks for checking in today.

First Day of the Week......

 The dinner plate hibiscus continues to bloom in its second season. I had watered them a little to get them ready for winter and they instead bloomed again.

It is planted on the northeast side of the house so it thinks it is spring again. It actually has many more buds that could bloom into the first frost.

The mums in the front yard are looking better. They were too dry and I had to keep watering to get them to bloom.

My wife joined me in the backyard today and we picked a few more of these things.  I trim back on the tomato vines each day and sack them in sacks. I will eventually get them all trimmed away. The glories will have to be trimmed down also. 

The phlox is blooming very late this summer/fall. The drought messed with their timing and one rain turned them around. The lighting was almost too harsh to make the picture work.

Fall Colors......

 The morning clouds were puffy but now they are all gone. We have a clear sky and it is warming up today.

The changes are coming in the backyard. The tree is actually in my neighbors yard kitty corner. 

The neighbors beside me have a maple changing and his neighbor beyond him has two other colored trees. 

This fall weather allows the morning glories to bloom all day. I want to tear out the tomato plants but they are supporting the glories. On hard freeze and I can clear it all.

The hibicus is putting at a few last late blooms.  This was a small flower compared to its normal size.
