Garbage Truck Fun.........

The greatest joys of having grandchildren is watching them grow up and become young people.  Our little guy seems so aware of so many things but his large living room window has been a center of learning as he watches all that goes on outside.  The street being rebuilt and the trees being cut down were two of his favorites.  All traffic fascinates him and I really don't know if he has ever seen the garbage truck work.  Even if he hasn't my wife and I found this wonderful toy for him.  It is a garbage truck with all sorts of great electronic devices.  One of buttons that is pushed causes the garbage bin to raise and lower in the back.  Another button causes the engine to start and then the back wheels actually will propel it forward. The one that he will like is the guy singing" to the dump, to the dump, to the dump, dump, jump" of course to the William Tell Overture music.  We will box it and ship it today with great joy sending him a surprise gift.  No special occasion other than grandparents saw the item as walking by it in the store.  Oh yes, can you see the lights all light up for different processes.

The big house on the corner is for sale.  When I moved to town in 1976 the house was vacant.  The surviving women was in a nursing home and the house had been empty foralmost 16 years.  I shouldn't say empty as when the woman died and the neighbor across the street north inherited it, large antique pieces of furniture were removed from the house.

It was told that antique can goods and corn flake boxes were still in the cupboards and the house was just left.  Apparently there were some nieces and nephews who took the contents when the owner died but the neighbor north got the property.

Since the owner died the house has changed hands four times.  The last owners lived there less than a year and a divorce has the house back on the market.  One set of owners did some changes to the house which destroyed some of its historic features.  This area in the photo was left alone.  I only ever saw this part from the front left side of the house was always curtained so I didn't even know there were doors going into a sunroom type of porch. I suppose it was cold with all the windows.  The room through the doors is surrounded with another pair of doors opposite these, front window of three and one set of window between the living room and the porch room.  That means the room is surrounded by six windows and two sets of double doors.

This house had owners at one time that owned a business up town.  Housekeepers sometimes were live in women.  I this house there was a maids door for their separate entrance.  The small door that is show in view is the door to the basement and also is an entrance to the kitchen via three steps from a landing.

To the left the the door shown was another door which was at the very corner of the house.  It was entered by taking a concrete stairs up to it.  When a person entered that door it turned immediately and went upstairs.  I suppose it could have also entered the kitchen, I don't know. The very first owners decided to get rid of those stairs and put in a bathroom off of the kitchen.

While view the photos of the interior of the house I discovered the top dormer windows let light into a closet.  I don't know if one of the new owners decided to wall up that side of the room to make a closet but you can see those two dormer windows through the closet door.  It seems a shame to waste that natural light. If those who are curious about seeing the rooms of this style of house here is a link to the realtor's site. Big Yellow House  I think there are 22 photos of the property.

One other thing that I find different about this bungalow is the glassed in porch replaces the large porch that usually is located on the front of the house.  I guess people changed things as they looked at the plans.  We have another bungalow the sits to the south of our house and it too was probably build by the same carpenters. It's front porch is extended out in the typical fashion.

The red maple and the birch have leaves that have changed colors.  The maple seems that it may not be red this year as the early leaves really show more brown than red. I will wait to see how that turns out.  The birch's yellow doesn't quite seem to be the normal yellow either but that may change.

Leaves are a new thing for me now even though I have a perfectly formed Heavenly Blue morning glory blooming righr.  We are suppose to war up this next week and that will be great.

I go into work today for a half day this afternoon.  I have a few chores to do this morning but will have to get to school by noon.  I will be with sixth graders this afternoon talking about math and science. I think it should be a good day.  Thank you for stopping by today.

I went and peeked at the house, that upstairs bath looked just like our kids house when they moved...drawers and all! That is a nice house, with some care it can be beautiful again.
What a cute toy for your AJ...he will be thrilled:)

I enjoyed the bungalow photos very much.

What a great toy for AJ. I remember Karen's son, Cameron, was fascinated with the trash truck when he was young.
