Blowing in the Wind......

I don't own a maple tree like this one but I do know where it is from.  I admired the tree when the guy tow houses over planted it and it is one everyone can enjoy.

When he planted it I was so happy.  The neighbor to the north of us has no trees but next to their fence over is this great tree.  I think it is about three years old and it might still get a little bit taller.  The weeping willow behind it is the next property over.  We really never see the willow unless we walk to the back of our property.

The sparrows are really feeding with great energy this time of the year.  I don't know if they migrate at all but there seems to be a lot of them out there this year.  I saw a chickadee at brief moment this morning but it left.

I painted our front door a color.  It was nice as a white door but we wanted to make a different statement. It took a while to get use to it being a color but I do really like it.

It has been a cool day which made it easier to mow the front yard.  We warmed up in the afternoon to a pleasant temperature where we don't have to wear a coat.  The day was a clearer day and seeing sunshine is nice.  Thanks for stopping by today.

End of the Week....

As the sun sets, the distant trees are illuminated. I didn't realize the sky looked like that as I was just in a hurry to shoot the photo.

Most of the trees with the best colors are still seen at a distance. Some of our local area trees will look brighter soon.

It is a work zone when you see the recycle bag out in the yard. I have a lot more to clear but I will only do a little each day.   I trimmed down more iris this morning and took out some dead zinnias. I mowed the back half of the yard today which included mulching up fallen leaves from the maple.  It is a cold day and I wear lots of layers at first when I was out there.  Long sleeved shirt was the choice while I mowed the same area.

Thanks for stopping in today.

Thursday's Things....

The neighbor's each have a tree for us to enjoy. The maple next door turns overnight and then the leaves just fall to the ground. The neighbor with the smaller red tree is a great one to see.  I noticed in the photo the the old silver maple is turning colors too.  It won't ever be red but turns a great yellow fall color.

While outside I realized that we had a sprinkle of rain.  The roses that were deadheaded  have moved on opening their next set of blooms. It was cold out there while taking shots. I had to put on my parka to work on trimming back some of my iris leaves.

The yellow rose is putting out a half dozen more blooms.  It seems they don't mind the cold as long as the day warms up in the afternoon.

Two sprigs of the purple salvia are up for the finish of the season.  It isn't very showy but it is nice to see them one last time.

I am painting our front door on the outside.  We have always liked seeing doors with color.  We watch a lot of mystery shows from Europe where the doors are painted a bright clear color.  I won't show you any view until I get the last coat of paint on it and the mess is cleaned up. The door was a very nice white but the new color is good too.  Thanks for stopping by today.

Middle of the Week.....

It has been a dull, cloudy day all day. The sun shines just a little. The red color is showing on the maple tree.

My wife recites a poem to me about bread and hyacinths.  If one has two loaves of bread, they should sell one and buy hyacinths for the soul. I pulled at these green stems in my rock garden area and up came the bulbs of grape hyacinths.  I pulled three batches and planted them among my tulips.  I also planted some along my new stairs.  I can wait until spring to enjoy my labors.

My one cone flower plant is trying to bloom.  It actually has two or three buds on it.  I hope it can open up in color before any hard frost.

At the bottom of the stairs my new hosta plant is doing well.  I didn't plant the post there but it looks good there anyway. The stairs and stones represent two big projects that I accomplished this summer. Clearing the gardens will be my last big project.  I bought two bags of mulch this morning and I can finish up things in the next few weeks.  I usually just stop when it starts to snow.

The fading garden will need to be all cut down.  I just saw a video this day of how I should be trimming down the iris to about three inches. I have never done that before but I can see it will make things look neater.  I have damaged a part of my hand by whatever work procedure and it causes my index finger to be in pain.   The joints sometimes click and/or won't have any free movement.  When this happens I have in the past tape the index and middle finger together.  The middle finger supports it all and does help me to move the index finger's movement.  Thus typing becomes a joke.  It is a little bit better today but I still have pain.  It does work itself out.

Thanks for stopping by today.

Tuesday.....

The locust tree in our front yard is such a wonderful specimen tree,  I did not plant it there but I  am glad it is there.

My new shoes got the workout this morning. I have now tested them and they are waterproof, We had frost on the rooftops today and everything was wet,

The beginning if the color change in the dogwood bush,  One branch at a time so it will be slow.

The rose survives and there are more buds to bloom,  I can see that I can now clear zinnias and more marigolds. Lots of work yet to be done, I am typing with two fingers taped together on my right hand so ut us hunt and pecking today, Slow amd losts of ,istakes.  Thanks for stopping by,,,,,,,,

Carnatons....

I remember that the first carnations that I ever saw were the ones people woreon their robes on graduation day. They were always white and sometime there was a little red flecks on the tips of the middle petals. Later on the carnations were white ones but were dipped in dye.  Sixty years have passed and now they are bred in colors.

Windy.....

The camera was too cold to get a focused shot.  It seemed more like an impression rather than a focused shot. Between the cold and the wind it just couldn't be focused.  Most of our red leaves are off in the distance in our neighborhood so I have to zoom in to get a closer look.

Walking to the very edge of the deck and leaning way out I did get a focused shot.  We are seeing trees that are turning but we are not close to being in our peak season for fall color. Most of our good red trees are hanging behind bigger trees of a different color.

The hardy geranium in the front yard pot is putting out just a few blooms.  I will be transferring this plant to a pot of its own. I will bring it in and try to get it to bloom over the winter.

The white one will also be potted up and brought inside tomorrow.  It is 52° F. and the wind is strong.  It makes it difficult to be outside.  When I bring in these plants I feel like I am cheating fall and winter by keeping them going in my windowsill.

I don't think the drought will affect our fall leaf show this year.  Last year everything just turned brown. We got just enough rains to keep the trees going.  Our last big rain ended up being one fourth of an inch.  We are still in a great deficit situation.

Have a good day.
