Gardener on the Loose

It is 90 degrees F. today. The humidity is less so it is a different kind of heat that beats down. The southern winds don't really make it feel much better.

worked outside this morning cutting back weeds with the grass trimmer. I had to take breaks as the heat does make one more tired than usual. I had some areas in the corner of the back fence that are now cut down. A day lily was struggling and I cleared everything away from it to maybe help get some blooms from it.  I worked on my zinnia patch again moving crowded plants into some open spots where none were growing.

The phlox is doing so well that it is flopping over into the zinnias. I staked up two different areas to keep them out. The zinnias are just now kicking off with blooms and the other half of the zinnia patch is jusst now growing up to six inches.

I hope that I can bring in butterflies with these again this season. We didn't have a great showing of the butterflies last year as we were in a drought again. I have seen the white ones out there so maybe more are coming.

In the photograph you can see a hint of orange in the far right corner. I didn't remember the lily was planted there.

I must have bought this one over the net. It is a strong great color. I do know that the phlox are crowding it and I already know where I will move this after the heat is over.

This is called the Turks Cap tiger lily. It isn't like the traditional kind that most people have. I don't know where I bought it but I must not have read the description when I ordered it online. I guess they cold have switched it out on me but I still didn't know. I saw orange flowers on the packet picture and was glad to plant it. It is a tall set of stems with so many blooms I am will welcome all of them.

We are predicted to have storms again tomorrow. I will work around it all as I can keep an eye on the radar. That is handy to be your own weather person.  Thanks for checking in today.
