Fuel, Coal Cars....


 


 


 Coal cars were essential as the engines burned it to heat their water.  The water turned to steam and the wheels were powered by it.  I remember as a kid seeing a steam engine and seeing the smoke puffing out of its stack. 



If you were out of coal your train would not go anywhere. The bins were big so that the supply would be never ending. Shoveling it would be difficult as it is like a rock and was hard and multifaceted.
