Thursday's a Good Day......

 

The same rabbit frequents my backyard. I don't have an enclosed backyard so they travel back and froth from across the street. This is the rabbit that some people couldn't see hiding in the background of my photo I shared yesterday.

While mowing the yard in the back today I saw an eastern tiger swallowtail.  I couldn't stop mowing to get the camera for some sound reasons so I went back later.  It wasn't in sight but this small butterfly was all over the zinnias.  I don't remember the name of them but I remember it is a short name. The swallowtail was beautiful. 

This is another wild life shot of a dove that just didn't want to be near me.  It kept peaking up over the step. I picked up the view of the plastic Canadian goose in the background which made it kind of a humorous. 

My glads are just now starting to bud and bloom. This is a shot of it in the wild but I have since cut it and have it sitting on my dining room table.  It warmed up today and the rains have stopped for a while. We are told we got a lot of rain the past two days but I really don't think that we did. It was spotty in nature.

Middle of the Week's Worth....

The young sparrows are hungry. They come in great numbers cleaning up the millet and sunflower seeds.

 

 

A visitor is hiding along the back wall behind the milk cans. Can you see it crouching and trying to blend in to the surroundings?

 

 

 

 

 The rains are encouraging the blooms letting the zinnia patch show so much color. I am amazed at the number of colors that show up from the recycled seed.

Tuesday's a Thing.....

 

 

 

I have enough tomatoes that I can give them away.  I sent away some yellow tomatoes and four or five roma tomatoes. Its nice to send them to where they are appreciated.

 

 

 I am sharing another one of my long lost artworks.  It has been in the portfolio where it was placed as I had to pirate the glass from it to use on a frame job in our frame shop a few years ago. It is Shovel Point that extends out into Lake Superior along the north shore. We had to hike down a high hill to get to a very rocky area to see the whole view of it.

I mowed the front yard this morning. It was cool and I had to wear a parka to cut the chill. I will mow the back tomorrow and I will be glad it is all done.  The grass is doing good with rains but it is starting to age now and not look so great as it did in the spring time. I have some weed control that needs to be dealt with soon.  Thanks for stopping by today.

 

Monday's Mentions...

 

 

 

 It was a rainy day with no sunshine. It did keep it cooler and we really do need some rain.. It gave me an excuse to not mow any yards today even though they need some attention. My sunflowers are getting good size buds on them but none of them have opened. I have one glad stem that is going to start to show off its color. Thanks for checking in today.

Checking In.....

 It is 6:00 am and this was the best view for the whole morning. The color was gone in fifteen minutes. 

Dinner plate hibiscus is a great flower and it is in the middle of its bloom cycle. My plant has not grown tall like others but I like it where it is planted. 

I was late in getting the zinnias planted but they did finally come through with all the great colors and textures. I should see more butterflies if they ever show up anywhere. 

They started in the morning tearing it all off the roof of a neighboring house. Then they start the process of replacing it.  They were still hammering at 6:00 pm and then it got quiet.  They played nice music and the had a crew of eight or more men. 

The temps have been good the past few days. It is nice to have it cool off at night. Thanks for stopping by today.

I Am Back....

 It has been cool enough that the morning glories stay open until late afternoon. They usually close up as soon as the heat from the sun hits them.

The dinner plate hybiscus doesn't like the colder weather. It has its buds opening but most of them haven't opened until noon. I had remembered that the flower was a pink but no it is a light magenta. I do think at one time I wished it was red but this is a good color. 

 

 

I saw my first monarch butterfly today. I had only my cell phone with me. So I got a big shot and had to crop it down. I ended up with a blurry shot.  I  was just glad I could think fast enough to grab the phone and open it up soon enough. The butterfly did flash its wings while eating but I didn't get that. 

I found some lost artworks that I created and somehow didn't get them photographed. I could have taken shots and lost them in their transfer from camera to computer.  It was quite a long time ago. Anyway I will share one today.

 Split Rock Lighthouse on the Northern Shore was painted many years ago. It was framed and hanging on the wall until I had to pirate its glass to use in an urgent frame job in our frame shop.  I found it in a folder that we had moved here to the new house. I looked for it because I realize it wasn't hanging on the wall in our gallery at the new house. I will frame it again.

Lots of things going on and I missed blogging yesterday. I see the world didn't stop still. Thanks for checking in today.

Collections of Useless Things.....

 Bottles collected from a burn pile of a farmstead. When things were empty they were just thrown in the trash. When the trash was burned the jars would just fall out of the trash and lay among the ashes.  I recognize the kinds of bottles here including pills and face cream. 

 
My dad was gifted the five gallon stornware jug as a gag gift.  The friends that gave it to him would pick them up for a quarter at farm sales. The others have history but I don't care to share their stories. Pickles would be stored in the open mouth one for long periods of time with a cloth spread over it to keep out insects.

 While cleaning up my storeroom/workshop I found this ceramic turtle. I think I use to place it in flower pots next to plants as a decoration.  It has been a long time since I have seen it. 

Made in Mexico means my parents maybe picked this up forty years aga. It has a nice glaze on it and it is about four inches across on the bottom of it. 

I spent time downstairs dusting and rearranging our art wall gallery this morning.  I haven't done it for a while but I needed to straighten and move things to be better placed on the wall. I really needed to dust everything. The below shot is one of the two walls of artwork. 

 

I will share more about our display of original works by my wife and also myself. It is fun to put them up rather than store them in boxes. My paintings are few in number as I do too many other things. I have pottery on display as well as all my wood creations.  My wife paints most all of her time, less time per day since she has been ill. She has completed a painting since she has been home from rehab health center and she has another one almost done. A third one has been started.
