A Visit.......

In Bonne, Iowa, north of us 25 miles or so is a train museum.  It has been there a long time but we had never visited.  Our oldest son said he had gone on a field trip there when he was in the elementary grades and he rode the train. I have a brother and his wife from Arizona who have ridden the train. A cousin of mine who lives in New Mexico  now just told me she had been on that train.  Well then it was our turn to ride the train.  The neighbor lady wanted to go and we went with her, or vice versa.  She did go with us to ride train.

The engine was made in China and was purchased to pull the 192's and 1930s passenger cars miles north and then bring them back.  The engine pulled the 11 passenger cars north to an old coal mining town of Fraser.  Once there the engine was disconnected and driven around on another track to connect to the back of the train and take it back to Boone. I took over 125 photos, so you will be seeing more of this adventure that we took.

I spotted that this car actually had upholstered seats, so we chose this car.  We sat in a private section of the car as you can see the partition that divided the area from the rest of the car.

As we traveled along the Des Moines River we saw many valley and river views like this one. The trees were there as they collected from the river on the bend of the river.  Also I think owners of the YMCA camp placed some of them there to help keep the river from washing away more soil from their camp.

It is fitting to end the blog with a caboose.  There are a few older train cars and engines sitting around to add to the theme of a train museum.

Our adventure today is to travel to southern Iowa to attend a man's 100th birthday party. He is the father-in-law of my oldest brother from Arizona.  I haven't seen my brother and his wife for a couple of years so it will be nice to see them.

I appreciate your stopping by today.  I hope all is well with you and your family.  See you tomorrow on the internet.

Good for you ! It's a shame how we never enjoy the local attractions that tend to bring people to our towns ! This made for an interesting post and I'm sure we'll enjoy more photos to come.
