Monday morning.....

It is Monday and I am a Science and PE instructor today.  The majority of the first hour class are out canoeing the Des Moine River for a field trip.  I have only one student that didn't go.  It will pick up the rest of the day as middle school pe will be packed with more than 35 kids each class and the other high school science classes will be normal.

The rose is one of those carefree ones that put out smaller roses. Their color is just as strong, but they open up into a simple petaled flower in a day or two and then they are gone.  It is one of the last rose blooms of this variety. I still have one more bud on another bush to watch as it opens.

The white edged petunia's are doing well but there is always one in the bunch that puts out a little different flower.  I was told that the variety was Cherry Frost and this one does not have the white edging.

It is getting time to get the rest of the outdoor plants in as we are stretch our warm weather a litttle.  It would be better to bring them in a few at a time rather than bring them in one evening in a panic because we would be predicted a hard freeze.  I do that most years and then forget to dig the glads or dahlias.  I can move most of my potted stuff into the spare room with the birds and not disturb them other than shock them in having warmer weather inside.

The zinnia's are gone.  I will pick flower heads the next few days and then mow them down.  I have some burning to do, which we are allowed, but it has been too dry. I will wait until after the rains before I will clean up my stick pile and leaves.  Yes we can burn.  If I take it to the city dump site they burn it out there, so I guess I just as well save the gas on the trip out there and burn it here. The landfill will not take any of it and there isn't a composting system set up in this town.

It was a busy weekend and my Monday seems to be a slow starter.  The ferral cat that we fed most of the year left us months ago with four kittens.  I saw her today when I left for work and I told my wife she was out there. I know she will get fed well.

Thanks for stopping by on this Monday.

A Splash of Color

When one has only a select small amount of flowers of which to take pictures my audience gets to see the same flowers over and over again.

These leaves are almost gone now as this picture was taken a few days ago and now they have withered in the wind.

It is Saturday and we are going to go to the bookstore this morning.  It  has been a long time since we have ventured out to go any place but the grocery store.

It is getting to be time to start raking up and clearing flower gardens.  I have a few weeks to get it all done and my leaves don't really fall from the silver maples until November.

Have a good weekend and take care.  Thanks for stopping by........

Fall views......

Looking up the street with blurry glasses.  I was out at dusk and the camera gave me a little bit of a watery eyes effect. Blurry!

Looking across the street as the leaves are changing.  We will be in full color in a few more days.

Eventually I will get the squash into the house but for now they are just a part of the arrangement. Yellow kitty has a water bowl in the photo too.

Thanks for stopping by.......

Wishful thinking......

This particular squash seems to think it can make it before the first freeze. I will monitor it to see how it goes as the majority of the vines are shutting down.

I need to now clear the zinnias and collect the seed. I am so glad that I planted this patch even though I was in doubt.

Another view of the vigor of the butternut squash as they just keep blooming.  One  bloom knows that is is over but the other blossom is raising it's head with hope.

I successfully made the chainsaw start up one more time to finish cutting up the last of the trees that we had cleared down on the farm.  It was a song and dance to get it to work but I think I have bonded with the machine now to know it's quirks and all of it's needs to keep it running.

I am teaching British and American literature today in the morning and in the afternoon I follow a nice young man to each of his classes.

Fall color everywhere......

The Aiatic lilies have interesting coloration as fall sets in and prepares them for the winter.

The tree across the street is turning yellow and leaves are starting to fall.

I am in the English room at the high school level today.  I am glad to have a break from the middle school students as they do take a lot of energy to keep them on task.  I spent the day yesterday with the chainsaw and some trees at the farm.  I will welcome a day off from that physical exercise.  I told my brother in law that a chainsaw gives off a far greater workout than any piece of gym equipment.

Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your Wednesday.

The alley view.....

While checking out the river birch I looked across the alley and saw the neighbors maple tree peaking over the roofscape.

The zinnia beauties are almost gone now.  I captured this with the Canon and it acts funny with reds just like my point and shoot camera. It is a great color but not the real color of the zinnia.

I did battle with a chainsaw today keeping it running so I could cut up trees down on the farm. I am not a mechanic that understands the chainsaw that well but I am learning.  I bought a new spark plug for it and it ran like a charm.  A new chain also made a great difference in my sawing successes.
Needless to say I may not be able to walk tomorrow with all those new muscles I found while using the saw.

It warmed up nicely today and it was a good warm day.  Everyone take care and thanks for stopping by my blog.
