Thursday's Things.....

A house finch looks into our living room window.  It may be just looking at its own reflection and wondering what is happening.

I haven't seen a housed finch at the feeders for over a month. They are a cute bird with great markings on their wings. As the snow melts away the seed that has been scattered from the feeder above is being exposed.

Ir is time for it to be torn apart and put away in the box. Our oldest grandson built it from a new box of legos. That was two summers ago and I decided it just needed to be put away. I bought it telling him we would just keep this one at our house for him to play with when he returns.

I was out yesterday afternoon to put fresh seed in the feeder.  It was warming up a little but you can see we still have lots of snow. I took a few shots that I will share in the future off and on in time. The snow was soft underfoot and it was easy walking even though there is still three inches or more of it on the ground.

Thanks for checking in on my spot today and stay safe.

Middle of the Week.....

It is melting around my fake geese. The female still has her beak caught in the snow. It isn't a warm up trend but it is just above freezing.

The path I shoveled to the bird feeders has all cleared now. We will have a high of 37 degrees F. which will make a slight dent into it all.

The ornaments are off of the smallest tree and have been taken downstairs for storage. The tree is downstairs too but temporarily in the spare bedroom until things get reorganized.

Wednesday seems to be starting off really busy for me with things that I have to do for my health. I take a daily insulin shot but also on Wednesday I take another one which is not insulin. It will help me to develop my own insulin.  I have one other new  procedure added to my routine that I will share when I get through  the 30 days.  I found out yesterday that a niece of mine who lives in Holland also has caught Covid. She  is young so I hope that is to her advantage.

Thanks for stopping by today.

The old silver maple tree is like a living sculpture in the winter. It even glows with the color of the sky. The broken limb finally fell to the ground after a couple of years.

The mourning dove is so peaceful as it eats with the two sparrows without bother. I usually see them in pairs but this one was alone.

I never got a chance to get a full body shot but this shows you the head and tail and the same time.

I have mentioned before how we moved in to the place but have slowly hung things on the walls.  I just added my wife painting at the bottom and it looked ok but lonely.  While digging through the store room yesterday I found one of my wooden shapes.  It is modeled after an old horse weather vane. I sold them for a while in our art studio. That was 25 years ago or more and I moved some of the leftovers with us. I had cut some from old pieces of lumber from the old house but his one was from newer wood.

The only bluebirds I will ever see in our area will be on this hand painted plate. I bought it at a flea market in Minnesota years ago. It was an open air market along the North Shore. I felt badly about it as a lady with the last name of Miller had hand painted and it must have been tossed into an auction box.

We were up early this morning for me to go have my blood drawn at the hospital. The only good thing about it was we bought Egg McMuffins afterwards so I could get food in me.  I had to be on fasting period before they could do the draw. It is cold out there so it is good to be back home. The breakfast was not good for a diabetic with all that bread but I will compensate for it by not eating something later today.

I hope all of you are out and about and are safe. My aunt in a nursing home has picked up covid from a worker at the place. It will be tough for her as she is very old and was already in a declined health condition. Thanks for stopping by today.

Monday's Mentions....

I tried to relive the old days by creating this terrarium.  It is a novel thing but not to impressive.  I don't have to water it as it holds it moisture in its little world. I don't know how long it has been since I first planted it but I do think it has been over a year.

My neighbor wrote me a note today saying that deer had been up on my porch at our old place. She feeds a stray cat on out porch and I bet one of them wanted to eat some of it.  The snow fall has been so heavy that the deer are having a hard time finding food in the harvested corn fields.  We are melting a little bit today but it really isn't clearing much.  Our old place has a field across the street and small herds of deer could be seen there in the night in the past.

Thank you for stopping by today.

Sunday Afternoon.....

A sunny, clear day which is cold.  I guess the snow makes it feel cold tis afternoon as it actually is 36 degrees F.

There are lost of tracks in the snow. Birds, rabbit, squirrel and a human made all these tracks.  I went out and retrieved a suet feeder and brought it back to put on the deck. It was untouched while being down there on the tree.  I did see a downy woodpecker on my deck yesterday so I though maybe I could feed it on the deck.

This tree comes down tomorrow. The one antique acorn ornament was the inspiration for this tree. Old shiny brite and older department store  balls are on this tree.  Also are the small glass blown ornaments that I have collected overr the years.

My brother that lives in California shared a photo of his sanseviera plant that he grows on his outside patio.  All I could share was this one that grows inside year round.  I like seeing my electric plate in the background.

Thanks for checking in today.

Saturday Stuff.....

Out in the very cold temperatures I filled the feeder for the hungry birds.  It is 9 degrees F. and it does make the fingers tingle when you don't wear gloves.  I have a variety of things in the tubes including black sunflower seeds.

There is not melting of snow again today. The wind shifted my cupola a bit and it has a lean to it now.  I knew the winds were strong during our last snowstorm but I didn't think it would shift the structure.

It is pretty stark looking out there with the layer of snow and the cold air. I thought I would venture out but it is too cold to do that. I could make some tracks in the snow to join the rabbit tracks and bird prints.

Back in my basement I decided to shift some plants around and place these guys on my drawing board.  They don't really need much light.  I have too many of these kinds of plants as I keep thinning out the main plants and add them to other pots. I don't like to kill plants. I have another one upstairs that is so overcrowded and really needs to be divided.  I have to go out to my outside shed to get soil in a bag.  That means I won't do that until it warms up a bit.

The thought of taking down trees is in the back of my mind but my energy level is not up to normal for that kind of thing.  It is Saturday and I am not doing anything new or strenuous on a weekend.  Thanks for stopping by today.

New Year's Day....

A new year is upon us.  I am not sure of it being much better but I am going to work on my attitude.  I wish the cardinal would come by more often but ihe probably has a better feeder elsewhere that is better. We saw a wood pecker yesterday at the hanging feeder.  My son says he sees woodpeckers eating sunflowers on rare times.

The begonia is blooming again while sitting in the sliding door downstairs. The oxalis is also  looking healthy in the background.

The sledding kids in my wife's village are always having a good time. The little girl yelling down the hill from the top is so typical.  Our one Pastor took his kids to slide down a Des Moines golf course hill yesterday.  I go to see a video of it as they slide down a very long hill.

Thanks for stopping by today. I wish you all to have a great day.
