Tuesday's Things....Mostly Flowers.

e

Don't forget to shut the gate. Don't shut it after the cows are already out. The derecho  tore up a lot of my fences on the property of the old place. I kept the gate and brought it to the new house. Maybe it will become a trellis for growing vines. Thanks for stopping by today.

Missed a Day.....Blogging.

I took a trip outside and too many photos Saturday evening and I don't have the excuse of not having photos. I just didn't blog yesteerday.  It is funny that I did check everyone elses postings in the late late afternoon but I didn't notice that I had not posted.  I guess I took a day off by  accident.

I bought two packs of seed of a different kind.  They are good but they aren't the bright and showy ones that I usually grow.  I did plant a few of last year's seed and they didn't do well in germination.  There are a couple of them that did sprout so I will have photos of those later on.

I bought some new seed with lots of goodies that are in it. The doves are really enjoying it and the sparrows are liking the spare few seeds of millet in it.

The morning glories are doing well but they are not in sight when I photograph in the late afternoon. I do like the spiral  shapes of the buds befroe the open. It is a magical design that is displayed before it unfolds.

I planted five dahlias this spring and the results are now being displayed. There are two other colors in the group that are different than the red. I will share them latter.

The flowers look like they are doing great but we are still in a drought.  It is said that we still are almost seven inches short of rainfall for the year.  My front garden shows that as the cone flowers and Susans look dried up. I have been too bush to water them.

The old place is being shown by the realtor.  I am still removing the last of the things that I need to get out of the house.  On Saturday I did not have a lot of things left to bring home.  I did have a neighbor help me bring out of the basement a small dresser that was my wife's from her farm home.  I needed the help to get it up the basement stairs.  He took one of my window air conditioners  and his wife wanted some of my cement blocks that I had next to the basement door. There are two parts of an old one room school house desks in the basement that I guess I will gather.  I would like to give that away.  We had no bites on the house at this time as the vulture flippers are waiting for the price to drop. They seem to want it for free as I had a conversation with one of the interested buyers.

Thanks for checking in today.

Saturday Morning.....

The modern phlox is shorter than the old fashion variety. It is nice to have them growing next to each other.

The newer variety is a two colored one. It has increased in size as a plant as the years go by.  It is very hardy.

I read in an article that people in Minnesota are dumping their goldfish into lakes.  They showed that they can grow up to four pounds in size. The way that they eat, by digging around in the bottom of a lake bed, disturbs the roots and growth of a lot of natural plants. I remember how years ago in Iowa that the naturalist suggested farmers to put koi into their ponds to eat up all of the moss.  Little did they know that they then had a new problem with huge fish taking over their ponds. All of the desirable fish were squeezed out of the ponds.

My dahlias are starting to bloom. This one is opening in the crook of the plant making it a deformed bloom. The color of it is wonderful.

I am still working up at the old place even though the place is being shown. I have one more load of step ladders and a few tools to bring home.  I also am trying to trim out volunteer trees in the past garden areas. I read a book once where a wonderful garden that was left unattended for years and it returned to a weedy mess.  My flower gardens have been unattended for a couple of years now and the best I can do is take out the big weeds and trees.  I have a planting of bee balm that has taken over a large portion of the yard in the back.  I hope soon someone will buy it and I can just walk away, never to return.   They will then cut it all down including the big trees leaving it all barren.

Thanks for stopping by today.

Friday.....

Hardy geranium in the front flower bed. The rains have brought them back to life after their survival during the drought.

The red phlox is doing well in that same garden area. It was planted a couple of years ago and was never too impressive until this year. The color really can be seen at a long distance.

The blanket flower also has started to put on new blooms after it had totally faded away. I really like the colors of the flower.  Gaillardia is its name, I looked it up.

I can't take enough photos of this day lily. It is doing well there and I hope just keeps spreading.

I spent the morning at the old place loading up the truck to bring more things home.  The house has been shown to a set of people already and I am trying to stay ahead of them.  I will make one more trip tomorrow with the truck to bring back step ladders and more wood.  The truck now works great.

Thanks for stopping in today.

Thursday's Things.

Numerous tornadoes were on the ground north of us. It cause us to have some great cloud formations.  We did get rain later on in the evening with lightning.

While grilling burgers I had to go get the camera to get this shot.  It had to shoot way above the house roof to get such a shot.

I got more shots than I can share on one blog. It was a hot, humid day making it perfect for tornadoes. There was significant damage around Lake City, Iowa. One set of grandparents took to the basement with their nine grand children.  When the came back out the second story of the house was gone as well as the first floor mostly demolished.

I thought the Susans were dead and gone but I did have a few show up anyway. I like how the coral bells branch out into this photo.

The yellow ones seem to be squeezing in with the con eflowers. The rains of last week really revived this garden out front of the house.

I got my truck to the shop and it is now back and running great. It is a relief to have it being reliable again. That means I can make a trip to the old place tomorrow and bring back the last of things to the new place.  Thanks for stopping by today.

Middle of the Week....

My smaller yellow day lily is putting out lots of blooms. It doesn't look smaller until you see the larger bloos below.

It is not a native thistle flower for us.  I am assuming it came with the birdseed above.  I will clip it soon to keep from seeding and spreading in Iowa. The flower doesn't look like a thistle bloom but the foliage and stems do make it look like a thistle.

My two neighbor guys probably hnd dropped jaws this morning. I backed my truck back out into the drive and hand washed it. I would have waxed it but I didn't have any right now. The reason I washed it is because it goes into the shop tomorrow. Two possible things wrong with it are the throttle position sensor or the shift solenoid. My son searched it on the internet and I think that it is going to be the problem that they will find and solve.

Thanks for stopping by today.

Tuesday''s a Title.....

Somebody planted the rose too close to the day lily. I think the rose will be more easily moved. The rose was moved in to this location from out of a shaded location.  It has bloomed well out in the sun.

A dahlia is trying to put out a bloom.  It is a nice color and the first for me to  plant for along time. I have four more plants like this but they look like they will be yellow.

I spent more time at the old place to pack up my tools still at the place.  I have most everything out but am leaving some essential ones in case something needs to be worked on.  Thanks for stopping by today.
