The view in Maine.....

My daughter in law Keegan took her husband, my son, and the dogs out to the Atlantic Ocean shore to take a Christmas photo for their holiday card.  From reading between the lines on her facebook, she had set up the camera on a rock or a tripod and had it on automatic. She also could have  had a remote device to press to snap the picture. I don't think I have the actual holiday photo here as it had both dogs actually looking at the camera.

Keegan really has great ideas and likes to experiment when taking photos.  I like the use of the scarves on the dogs, and Aaron too. They live in the woods about a mile from the ocean and work near Bar Harbor at Johnson Laboratories.

This was also posted on facebook and this is the one I really had to laugh at when I saw it.  Apparently a seagull or a boat or whatever came by and the boys in front had to take a look.  They are sweet dogs and my son carries them around like babies.

As a sub today I am a floater again today.  I will do tech work or end up assisting in the special ed room.  I even carry out the trash for people on good days.  I am glad I can work and do whatever that is needed.

Looking down from Cadillac Mountain

October 1st and the frame shop is officially closed.  I still have work to do with the ones who had their foot in the door before the closing date.  We opened the gallery the second year we were married as my wife was a stay at home mom and painting was her thing.  We built the gallery ourselves and opened not knowing that people were going to pressure us to become a frame shop.  I made my own frames at first with mouldings from the lumber stores.

Twenty five years later and thousands of things that we framed on my Saturdays off every weekend and now we are quitting.  We became a very good custom framing shop and framed everything that didn't move.  We framed things that most people wouldn't touch including large glass window designs, stove pipe hats, tatting tools,  to every kind of crochet item on the face of the earth.

We are quitting as our suppliers of mat board are shrinking in the local area and the price per sheet of mat is  too expensive for a small town shop.

Our customers have been coming to us expecting us to give them a better deal than the Hobby Lobby stores.  We have done that too much and now barely get paid a profit.  One of my last jobs is a big one and I know that I am not making much of a profit for the time I have put into it.  I just want to finish her work and send her on her way.

We have loved being a personal frame shop and have made many new friends and have even counseled and comforted across the counter so many times but it is time to move on to other things.  Not having the shop which is connected to our house will afford us to have a lot of our privacy back to being our own.

A moose in a bikini..........

Here is another report on the streets of Bar Harbor.  I shot these few photos just for my blogger fans.

Inside this store were  three very large murals of moose (plural) doing so many everyday activities.

They really enjoy vacationing in Maine as they fish among the lobster trap markers. I can really dig those shades on the moose to protect them from the bright sun's rays.

Even though the water is cold a few of the moose population do hit the beach.  You thought I was just tricking you about the moose in a bikini.  I didn't mention she was a blond moose and her friend is a long hair hippie.  I didn't see a signature of the artist or I would have given the person or persons credit for their work.  We didn't buy any shirts here as their prices seem to be higher here than in most stores.

Dink's Taxi Restaurant.........

I have shared a similar visual of this place in Bar Harbor, but I am returning now to show some closeups. I would have loved helping put this pieced decorated portico on this building.  Brackets and mouldings are cool and I like working with them.  Notice the starburst decoration above inside  the triangle of the pediment.

Some people just have porch ceilings but this thing reminds me of an old movie house with the lights and the painted sky scene.

The whole car body is not up there. I didn't really know until I saw this photo.  Cool brackets and the small column made from a halved porch railing was effective.

The windows makes me believe it was a church but I can't figure out how all these building got built around it in such close spaces. Buildings butted up to it within six feet or less on two sides and the door to the building was down an alley between two buildings.

More brackets, mouldings on the fascia and a cool entry door. The moulding and brackets had special painted effects on each piece.

We did not go inside but that gives us an excuse to go back one more time, maybe next year.   We did eat at one restaurant that our son later told us was considered to have bad food.  I guess that is why we got in so easily, but the meal was great for us.  Stuffed fish filets with crab dressing and cheese sauce.

As the cool weather is setting in around us I am going to be more rushed to get my outside work done.  I need to work on my own house on the outside and hope that some warm days come back.  We bought the kitchen flooring material today for the parents house and will try to get that done this week.
